Thank you, Launderess. There is a discussion of these Ultra detergents here and why the manufacturers got  away from them. I found them to be very satisfactory for one reason that they failed: they were low sudsing in an era when most washers were top loaders and the moo cows wanted suds on top of the water, which Karen Kenmore the combo did not. A few years later, reintroduced  tablets failed because new washers did not use enough water to dependably dissolve them.  Vey's mir, it's always something.

Those of us who've been on the planet long enough to remember the break-up of The Beatles recall the introduction of powdered Ultra detergents well. Wow, was it that long ago?!

Liquids had yet to gain their eventual stranglehold of retailers' shelf space and the modern 'pod' format wasn't even a gleam in a chemist's eye; nor did detergents sport today's advanced, super-effective cocktail of enzymes designed to actually clean better in cool-to-moderate water temps.

Thanks for the look-back link, Launderess.

promoting the 180 lbs. box of Schlonz (old regional German word for an untidy person). (S)he starts out by touting how it cleans her two Soccer boy's laundry at 140F... but ends up insulting everyone as her arms are about to fall off.
