The bearings on the motor of my Amana washer needed lubrication. I did it last month, and had to do it again this morning. Otherwise, the washer will not go into a spin; the motor will buzz and shut off.
Last month, I used a light oil, and was able to spin the motor shaft freely by hand. Today, I used Kroil. (I have used Kroil in the past, to restore an old typewriter.) The motor shaft again is more noticeably able to spin freely. I don't want to have to do this every month. Before I put the machine back together, is there a preferred type of oil to use on the motor bearings? The Amana model LW3303W is 28 years old; I replaced the motor in 2005. Back in the day when you could take a motor apart, lubricate the bearings, and put it back together, the solution was more permanent. As a back-up plan, does anyone here have a replacement motor available? When I searched the various parts suppliers online, most of them did not have this motor available. It comes back as Whirlpool part number 27179; 1/2 HP. |
