Great find! Congratulations and have fun with it. Maybe someone around here has a spare agitator cap for sale.

Torque Spring breaking by downy ball getting under agitator

maytagneptune's profile picture
Is there any possibility that if I use my Downy Ball that I use on my 1982 kenmore will get under my agitator and jam it causing the torque spring to break or does the 1-18 not have a torque spring at all? I learned about the torque spring in swestoyz's video.I'm also worried about a bra underwire coming out of one of my mother's bras and destroying my bellows. With some serious welding can I fix he torque spring myself?

Food for thought: No Downy softener balls or anything else that might cause damage or require serious welding. It is an awesome relic of the past. Treat it well!

Fun machines but be warned...

hippiedoll's profile picture
These are pretty loud machines.
I remember I snuck my 1-18 into the laundry room and got it into the place where my Maytag normally was. Moms was none the wiser. But the first time I washed a load of clothes in the Frigidaire, it was at night. I had to jump up & run across the house to close the kitchen door that led to the laundry room because I was afraid it was going to wake her up!
LOL...

To me, the 1-18 sounds like a freight train chugging down the tracks!
:oD

Laundry mesh bag...

hippiedoll's profile picture
I use a laundry mesh bag to put the bras in for washing and I wash them on gentle. Never thought about the wires damaging the washer, I was always nervous the agitator was going to bend or misshapen the wires .
:o/

But so far, that hasn't happened.
