I’m replacing the cord of my washer and decided to open the motor to clean out the 80 years of lint I can see through the vents. I took out the 4 long bolts but can’t figure out how to get the two halves of the shell to come apart (yes the pulley is off, and I tried hitting the shaft with a hammer). Also wondering what I should put in the lube ports for the motor shaft. Vaseline is what we use for sewing machine motors, which are considerably easier to take apart (their center bands aren’t welded together so it’s easy to get a screwdriver underneath to pry the motor shell apart)

Hello again...

After removing the 4 long bolts, tap gently with a hammer and flat-head screwdriver on the part that bulges out a little on the bell housing, right beside the bolt holes.

Regarding lubricating the motor - I always recommend "3-in-1" oil with the blue label, specifically formulated for electric motors.

How often should it be lubricated?

in common courtesy. It would be appropriate to thank a member for their knowledge and advice before firing off yet another question. There are many members here that have spent years - and considerable expense - accumulating experience and knowledge. We are only too happy to share with other enthusiasts who express their appreciation.

How Often To Lubricate a split Phase Washer Motor

If you do a good cleaning and oiling it should go a very long time, at least 10-30 years unless you are using it a lot.
