Saw an ad in the county newspaper about the new Maytag 'cast iron black' line. Will have to hop on over to the Maytag dealer and see what it looks like up close and personal.

Looks like Maytag's answer to other manufacturers "Matte Black" finish. |

I like this new black, and I could imagine choosing it.
Well, I could imagine choosing it if I could first imagine buying a new appliance (and not just a new appliance, but a higher end appliance)! LOL I have had mixed feelings about the standard black. I like it the best of recently used colors...but (in my limited experience) it's problematic for keeping clean. I'm guessing that a matte black might do better in this regard. |

Only those "retro-like" types appliances (really mere "wolves in sheeps' clothing") can offer those classic Pink, Yellow and Turquoise, and even Red, as well as Black, White and Gray, in that manner...
So, things like that making it to the mainstream brands really would mean more than merely, yet, another non-color really trying to turn on the public like this one... Only just "Slate"... -- Dave |

Whirlpool still has an induction range on it's site:
www.whirlpool.com/kitchen...">www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/cookin...
I saw the KA induction double oven, freestanding as well as the GE induction range. (often seen on clearance, once priced at $699) The Mart didn't have this Samsung slide-in as I'd hoped. www.samsung.com/us/home-a...">www.samsung.com/us/home-applianc...
Next time I'm there, I'll look for the CI Black on the Maytag line. This would make a good "appliance value package" since it's a new finish and has mid-line pricing.

Hi Eugene, I would much rather have a CC oven than AL-SCing any day.
CC electric ovens actually worked pretty well as long as you kept heavy duty aluminum foil on the floor of the oven to catch heavy spills, but you can't do that with silly hidden heating elements or gas ovens with out damaging the oven floor.
With CC you still had to clean the racks, oven window and light bulb by hand but there is no way I am going to clean an entire oven by hand.

Good Lord, I forgot all about that. My grandma had a Kenmore continuous cleaning oven. All I remember is that the oven material was rough.....not smooth. And I think it did pretty well if I remember correctly.......
I've also read that using the self-cleaning feature on any modern oven shortens its life. How true that is, I don't know. But it kind of makes you wonder because of those super high temps. Oh, I've never cared for black appliances. I've always ALWAYS had white with one exception. The GE portable dishwasher that you had to drag over to the sink was avocado. |
