Father Richard couldn't find the manuals, but we had a fun visit and a great laugh. He had put a couple of miniature Hershey bars in his breast pocket, forgot them, and later, put his iPhone the same pocket. He pulled the phone out to check messages, and the entire bottom of the phone including input and output ports, microphone and speaker were covered in melted chocolate. He's elderly and not very tech savvy so I attempted to help rescue it. We turned it off, and I brushed the chocolate off gently with an old toothbrush under a light stream of running water. I dried it well with a towel and blew it dry on the warm setting of a Shick blow dryer that has to be older than I am (52). I told him to keep it turned off as long as possible. We both laughed a lot and hugged goodbye. I was pulling out of the driveway when I noticed I chocolate on my dress--and I couldn't call and tell him to change shirts because I'd told him to keep his phone powered off.
I suggested he put in a bag of rice, but he had no rice. Neither of the priests cook in this fabulous rectory kitchen. It was once all turquoise, and when he updated it to white, he had the Frigidaire oven professionally painted white. It's paired with a gorgeous 40" stainless Norge cooktop with grill and stainless Nutone vent hood. His one nod to the old kitchen is a turquoise Swing-A-Way wall mounted can opener. It calls itself "Automatic." Any of y'all ever seen one? And what makes it "Automatic?" As far as we can tell it turns with a crank like the others, but clearly something more is going on. Sarah |

What this automatic is there is no separate lever you have to move to pierce the can lid, instead you turn the crank CCW position the can and then turn CW and the lid gets pierced and cut from the can all in one smooth operation,
I have been using this newer model for at least 30 years many times a week, much handier than an electric can opener and you never have to go looking for it.

I think the idea is cool, but the design of the one at Father Richard's is very clunky.
Is yours automatic? It looks like it must be because I don't see the lever on the top. I really like the way yours looks. It has a lot more style than Fr. Richard's and the one I grew up with. Please post a picture of the other side. What's the chronology of the different designs? Here's a picture of one similar to mine. Sarah
