This should be simple to find, but I can’t find one. I think it must be all in the name. I need the bushing thing that goes through the hole in a fixture that creates a smooth path for a pull chain. Pictures below. A name would be great. A source would be even better. Thanks

Sarah

I don't know what they're called, but have seen them on hanging cards at stores like the dearly departed Orchard Supply Hardware.  I'll bet ACE has them.  I'm pretty sure I have a couple lying around in junk bowls or drawers.

What you need to determine is whether the fixture/lamp uses a switch like this, which employs the part you want:

Or a whole socket that integrates the fitting for the chain:

Lamp part

You can try Antique Lamp Supply on line. I've found a number of impossible to find parts there.

When my brother was maybe 5 years old...

He had a name for the socket above, he called it a "string socket".

I don't need a switch or a socket, I just need the metal bushing assembly that creates a smooth travel path for the chain...

No luck at Antique Lamp Supply. I fear my problem is lack of a name...

string sockets and snakes

When my younger son was about four, he collected pull chains and pretended they were pet snakes. Although I was usually a diligent pocket checker, one of his "snakes" slipped past me, wrapped itself around the transmission of my favorite Whirlpool washer ever and killed it dead. (and my husband is/was very experienced in maintaining our Whirlpool washers--for a long time, we had a "Franken-Whirl-More" comprised of parts from our 2005 Whirlpool and my grandmother's Kenmore from the 70s or 80s)

I think it might be called a knurled nut or finial.

Here's one. I'm not advocating this site, this is just an example I found on Google.

That's it. Thank you very, much fan-of-fans! Consider me a fan. (I know, that's really bad, right?)
