I'm trying to get our Sensi Temp burner working again and just when I thought I fixed it another issue appeared.
I recently found the correct 10.5 ohm sensor and replaced it. While testing it everything seemed to work great,
coils heated up enough to burn off the years of build up on them.
I could hear a slight hum from the responder but seeing that this was the first time getting the burner to work I wasn't sure if that was normally.

The new issue is that it seems to turn off only after a few minutes.
I tried boiling a pot of water on the high boil setting only to come back after a little bit to find a could touch coils with my hands.

I rechecked the sensor connections to make sure they hadn't fallen off for some reason. They were good.
When I turned the burner back on, it worked but only for a few minutes again.

Just curious if anyone else had experienced something like this before I go chasing down a new responder.

It could be a bad transformer or a responder, are you sure that the 10.5 Ohm sensor is correct, I have the exact same CT & hood and mine uses a 17.5 Ohm responder, although GE did switch over from the 10.5 to 17.5 at some point.

The sensor that was originally there when we moved in was a 10.5 ohm sensor with the white wire insulation.

From what I can tell my range and oven are from 1961/2 since the house was built in 1962.
The model number is JP86X1GR Serial number XR00816.

Anyway of specific way of testing the transformer or responder?

Automatic burner problem

Hi Steve if the CT is really that old it probably does use the 10.5 Ohm sensor, the CT we have is a 1964 setup and always had the 17.5 Ohm sensor.

To test the transformer just test to see if it keeps putting out 12 volts when the burner quits heating, if so then the responder is the very likely problem.

You can convert the system to the newer 17.5 Ohm sensor but you need to match the responder and sensor.

Thank you John. I’ll check the transformer next.

Alright, finally got a chance to check the transformer. Showing a solid 11.4 - 11.7 volts from the transformer to the responder even after the burner stopped heating. I guess I’ll start searching for a responder. Does anyone happen to know what the part number is? I looked for the number on the back but was unsuccessful in finding it.

contacts bad

I have one of those and I think that the contacts inside the responder are bad. I have yet to disassemble it and try to repair it but one day I will. lol.
