Not working Properly. I am not too familiar with how this machine operates, so I was letting it run through a cycle so I could see how it works.
It seems to have gone through a wash, and rinse cycle fine. I'm not sure what kind of sounds the machine should or shouldn't make but I could hear a lot of clicking here and there during the operation. When it got to the dry cycle everything seemed to be normal. The dry light came on as well as the blower. When it completed I opened the door and there was standing water in the bottom, so I closed the door and pushed the drain button. I let the machine run for a few seconds, and then I opened the door to make sure it was draining, but it was actually spraying the water all over the tub again like a wash cycle. Then I started to hear a lot of clicking from behind the left side of the control panel and the Machine was lighting the wash rinse and dry lights within seconds of each other while the clicking continued. I pushed the drain button again and the dry light stayed on and the Machine was running as if it was washing again. I had to remove the control panel in order to remove the front panel to paint it and I saw inside the left of the control panel what looks to be a timer? That is the area I heard a lot of clicking coming from. So I'm wondering if the timer May be bad now or is there something else that goes wrong with these that makes the timer malfunction? I guess dishwashers don't really like me, LOL. But if anybody can offer any advice, diagnosis or repair info it would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to have everything in working order before I move in at the end of the month. The dishwasher seems to be the only real problem. Thanks again guys for reading and for helping. This site is awesome. Best always, Louis

Something is stopping it from draining otherwise everything you describe is completely normal operation.
There is a whole list of things to check
1 is it connected to a disposer, did the installer knock out the disposer knock-out where the DW drain connects ?
2 is the drain hose kinked ?
3 When you push Cancel-Drain do you hear the drain solenoid snap ? if not look for the pink or white wire not plugged on the drain valve solenoid, if the wires are connected and you don't hear the snap you may have a bad DV.
4 after these items it may get a little more complicated You may have to disassemble and rebuild the drain pump.
There are several other possibilities but the good news this is not a fatal issue and usually not that hard to resolve.

-Firedome for the compliment 😉
-John for the diagnosis. The drain hose was kinked high up behind the sink, where the plumber looped and supported it.(see pic) I repositioned it and added a Pex brace, but the hose needs to be replaced. He used such a flimsy thin walled hose. It will probably close in on itself in time. I ran a short wash with no dishes and it did Great. I'm really looking forward to using it regularly. Are there any spare parts you recommend, I keep in stock? I read a lot of past threads where members speak highly of this model. Maybe I got it right this time 👍 Best Washes, Louis

I am in the middle of tossing my left over stuff and I believe I have a Wash Arm Support, A fill and drain valve from my KDS-18 stash. I will let you know what I have if you are interested. Where are you in Northern NJ ? I am coming down to visit my Dad who is in Blairstown. We could possibly meet somewhere and save the shipping costs. |

Hi Louis, Glad you found the problem, KA was the only manufacturer that did not include a drain hose with their DWs, as a result the installer had to find something that sometimes was not that great and resulted in a service call, We used to see this problem all the time.
You may be able to use this drain hose, just use a 2nd support on it for the high loop so it will not kink.
If you like you can eliminate the HL all together as this DW has a positive spring loaded drain valve so no water will back up from the drain into the DW.

John for you're help. I don't feel so stupid, know what you shared about the drain hose not being provided. Given my track record, I will keep the HL in place 😁 lol.
Lisa, for your kind words. I will post some pics of the rest of the kitchen after my Fridge is returned from storage. I refinished all the cabinets, hood and, DW, myself. I lightly sanded w/fine grit and wiped down only the metal items, with Alcohol wipes. I primed the surfaces with Kills Interior / Exterior Primer. The Paint is VALSPAR Semi-Gloss Interior CABINET Paint. Be sure you use CABINET paint. It is oil enhanced, goes on a litle heavier than latex paint, yet still cleans up with water. I recommend using "Foam Rollers for painting cabinets". I hope this helps. Good luck 👍 |

Did you have the countertop custom made in order to have the 90 degree edge to install the metal band? Im wanting to do the same in my kitchen and I haven't inquired yet with any "home improvement" stores to see it they offer countertops with a straight edge that could be covered with the band. The laminate countertops I see in the stores all have a coped or rounded edge.
Did you do the floor yourself? I was also thinking of doing a pattern with blue and white VCT but have decided on sheet vinyl instead. |
