My mother's whirlpool vmw lid lock with shift acuator washing machine balance spring rods gone through can this be repaired or it will be better to get a new one?

Fairly common problem.  Replacement support rods are available and they're easy to change.

How old is the machine?

If it is ten years ld, save the cash and invest in a new one. Before long, the electronics will be shot. Have the bearings been replaced yet, gearcase? Also wear out items.
