Is there any such thing anymore as a competent HVAC outfit? Neither of the two in town qualify. The longest-established outfit ... they've fouled-up at the theater several times. In one case the service dude dispatched wanted to talk to me (via phone, I was at home) about what *I* think is wrong. Uhhh, that's kinda your job. Same outfit installed a new system last week at RJ's 4th rental refurb. Heat pump with a programmable thermostat ... except the program functions came up inaccessible. RJ fussing ... press the Menu button, supposed to say PROG ... no PROG ... I told them I want a programmable thermostat ... they assured me it will be ... no PROG. So I go investigate this afternoon. Fortunately they left both the Installer Manual and User Manual. Accessing the Installer Set Up menu ... I found they had it configured to be ... ta da ... NON-Programmable. The other outfit installed a heat pump system at his 3rd rental outfit a few years ago. They had the thermostat configured for the wrong system type. He called them back at least twice, they didn't get it right ... so he looked up the configuration settings online and corrected it himself. AND they installed a smaller auxiliary heat strip capacity than was specified on the contract. RJ discovered the situation within a month, called them on it. They had to REDO the wiring to support the correct heat strips ... so it wasn't an "honest" mistake of inadvertently installing the wrong heat strips ... they had it WIRED for the smaller capacity. |

Nobody is held accountable. Period! The company is obviously making enough money that quality doesn’t matter. It usually leads to management. Good service techs are hard to come by these days, but a company with good management will find them and figure out how to keep them because the good techs are making way more in the commercial or industrial field versus residential.
