Thanks for another great batch of ads, Louie. I’ll have to use Crisco to make this year’s Thanksgiving dinner more digestible!

tried the Underwood Deviled Ham Quicks. Didn't turn out well. I think the problem is the new cans are bigger than the one in the ad. They turned out like flat cookies, good flavor but something went wrong.

Reply #64: My stepfather’s stepmother (my step-step grandmother?) used to make the upside down Veg-All tuna bake during Lent. It wasn’t bad, actually.

Reply #46: My dad always placed a slice of cheddar cheese on his slice of apple pie and put it in a warm oven for a few minutes to soften it. Like most tykes, I had to have my apple pie the same way as dad did. (This also accounts for my penchant for blue cheese salad dressing and having hash browns as a side with hamburger and steak.). Anyway, I’ll bet making a cheese crust with a slice of cheddar atop the slice would be awesome.

Thanks for continuing your food ad series, Louie. Always fun to peruse!

I remember the first time I tried a piece of sharp cheddar on top of a slice of warm apple pie...I was a young teen and thought that it was going to be awful. Boy was I wrong. It was delicious.

I made many of those Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee box-mix pizzas back in the day.

Vermont Maid Syrup was the only kind we ever had when I was growing up, and it was the best!  I haven’t seen it for many years now.  As I recall it had a higher percentage of real maple syrup than even Log Cabin which always made a big deal about using real maple syrup in its product.

Thanks Louie for posting these wonderful windows to a time gone bye.😀

My mom used the Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee boxed pizza mixes when I was a tyke. She’d make the dough in a stainless steel mixing bowl, then cover it with plastic wrap. She’d fill one of the kitchen sink basins about halfway with very warm water and let the bowl of dough float in it while the dough rose. Don’t know if the directions specified that, but it’s what she did.

I used to use the Chef Boy-Ar-Dee pizza mixes all the time too about 30 years ago.  I’d use two boxes and make a great big pizza on a large cookie sheet with sides, using lots of toppings like diced green pepper and onions, pepperoni, Italian sausage, black olives, mushrooms and shredded mozzarella.   They were really good pizza’s.

Now I just go to the Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake across the street, and their pizza is always excellent, and sure a lot easier too.

I made quite a few of those Chef Boy-Ar-Dee pizza mixes as an adolescent. I did it mostly because I found it fun to do. I remember the sauce being very acidic.  They are still being sold.

They were fun but you had to spread the dough out tissue-paper thin to make a decent size pizza.

When I was a kid, Saturday was pizza day at lunchtime. We would have Chef Boy-ar-dee with extra pepperoni my mom sliced and added. It's been quite a few years since I've made one.
