Posted a link to someone offering a very nice Ironrite 95 model (TOL as they go) for free out in this neck of woods.

Checked back for a few weeks, and advert was still up so wonder if that machine ever found a new home.

Even Miele ironers being offered are sitting for weeks with not a nibble.

Mangle

People just don't use such things any more.

My grandmother, born in 1931, was raised in an upper middle class family in Chicago and frequently used a mangle as a child. They ironed cloth napkins, tablecloths, all undergarments, shirts, pants, curtains...everything! Now most people don't even iron shirts or pants.

I love talking to her and my grandfather (born 1926) about their daily lives as children.

I use my Ironrite about every two weeks. Keeps all our napkins ready for use- plus I use it for my 'business' (Snow-e-white vintage and antique linens). Very calming to sit and iron- and everything turns out so well- nice and crisp and no need for starch!

In the 70s we inherited a mangle but never used it. It just annoyingly took up space in a closet.

The concept of it is good, especially if you have a large volume of linens and can't stand the occasional wrinkle.

It's just one of those humany things that people are known for getting caught up on some frivolous detail.

With that said, I still have an iron.... I use once a year. Usually on the edges of sheets that have curled. So I guess I'm sorta human. lol

I have an Ironrite that I can't give away, either. No one will even take it for free. I wish it would go to a good home and get out of my basement... LOL!

Hard to believe no one wants them for FREE? Even with scrap prices down a bit, they must weigh a lot.

Largest issue with Ironrite cabinet units like model 95 is likely size. They were built for homes with laundry rooms, or another area to house something that takes up substantial real estate.

Even Irornite knew this and introduced a portable fold down along with smaller cabinet units. There was also the "Duo-Fold" which folded down into its own cabinet.

Even though IMHO Irornite units are better than Miele's rotary irons (even the 220v units), at least the latter folds down thus is more compact when not in use.

You also have fact that there is a learning curve to using an Ironrite. But once mastered a person can crank out all sorts of well ironed laundry rather quickly.

Yes, am going there again; but Jon you know I love you more than my luggage!

We actually had two of them, now that I think about it. Both inherited. One was the previous one that was white with rounded edges and wide like 48" stuck in that bathroom closet.
The other one was inherited when grandmother passed. It was gray, the size of a short portable dishwasher, and folded out some how. It had square edges. Never used it. I think it got sold at a rummage sale. They were both on wheels, I know that.

These things were dangerous weren't they? If you weren't careful you could easily slip a finger or hand into the hot rollers and ......
