Just installed a late 1980s Hobart WM5H, and discovered that it has a slow drip when not in use. Determined that the fill solenoid must not be closing completely, but it's only letting in around a gallon a day which pushes its way through the booster and collects in the sump.

Problem is the machine drips when there's water in the sump. With the help of a mirror I was able to see the drip starting around the rubber connector for the overhead sprayer pipe where it comes out of the motor mounting plate. I also notice some patchy discoloration on the motor mounting plate and other plastic parts in that area. I attach photos of the leak area from underneath in the mirror and the inside of the machine where the discoloration on the plastic is quite noticeable.

Has anyone run into a similar situation? I'm wondering if may be as simple as some hard water scale between the plate and the overhead connector, if I'd be better off replacing the rubber connector as a whole, or if the problem is more likely caused by some deterioration of the motor mounting plate.

Thoughts most welcome, thank you!
Greg.

Take the rubber elbow out and either replace it or apply a good marine sealant around the edge and reinstall.

Likewise the large sump gasket can be removed and replaced or you can use sealant on it as well.

It also sounds like the dripping inlet valve needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

WM-5H Wiring Diagram

Thank you John, I hadn't realized that the flange on the elbow was just held in place between the motor plate and the pump outlet... tracked down some food-safe aquarium silicone, let it cure 48 hours and gave things a test-run last night - so far so good! I think I'll put the solenoid on my Christmas list.

On another note, does anyone have a wiring diagram for one of these? The one on the front plate has seen better days. It's a machine with ML 107352 - I see Bobbins had one of these as well, but those threads go back about 10 years.

Cheers,
Greg.
