A very good morning to you all

(albeit wet, I'll never get my washing dry)

First off, Hi! I'm Ross, from good old Bolton, UK. Long time reader of the site.

I am absolutely blown away with the knowledge and passion that so many of you have, I myself share in such passion, however, I would love to start getting clued up on the knowledge and technological side of things.

Anyway, I digress, I always seem to search for 1990s appliances, I have a fascination with the 90s, one of my earliest memories is helping my Mum with her new Indesit washer dryer, it resembled a 1263w (?) and the door hinge was ALWAYS snapping off. I would love to share any memories and see any nostalgic appliance images that may be knocking about from that era.

Lots lots more to discuss and it would be lovely to make some new likeminded friends!!

Have a cracking day!

Welcome to this club. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have, over the years. There is definitely a lot of knowledge here among the members and lots of friendly folks.

YAY!

Welcome!

You'll soon discover we're all crazy but don't worry, we don't bite (much).

Don't forget to subscribe. Robert Seger spends fortunes to keep AWO running great and he never stops. We're constantly being surprised with new features so there's nothing more fair than give him a little help. And the yearly subscription is ridiculously inexpensive.

Now tell us more about you, you collection (ok, i already saw you have 1 washer in your collection and I'm curious about it, where are the pics? more details? videos?)

My husband (Spiralator60) is also saying hi. BTW, guess where we met almost 10 years ago...

Good to see you mate, glad you're aboard.  Up north, Liverpool way, inland some.

Looking out the window here in N central Texas, probably resembles what you're seeing at the moment, only 6 hours darker and a LOT less culture.  wink

...where to begin

Hello!! I really do look forward to seeing what I can learn from this font of appliance knowledge

thomasortega & spiralator60

Hello to you both!!

I do indeed intend to subscribe, however I need to get my head around the basics first haha

So I am in the process of moving house, in the old property I had an integrated Zanussi ZWT71201WA washer dryer. I don't seem to have any original pictures, however, I may try and get some before I hand the keys over.

Wasn't the best if I'm honest, it had the most bizarre set of programmes with almost every cycle having an alternate option with prewash. It's difficult to explain but if you google it you will see what I mean. It just seemed a bit unnecessary. The rinse wate seemed to be rather low on it and my word the rubber doorstep was constantly coming away and causing small leaks. Anyway that was that.

In my new place (and I know this will get crucified) I have an Indesit IWDC6125 washer dryer, which comes with the property. I know they have a bad rep, and I can see why, it's very basic and a bit clunky but the cycle times aren't too bad and there is some flexibility with the temp and spin.

As you can imagine the dryer is absolutely shocking and I very rarely use it. It makes the clothes take in that horrid rubbery washer dryer smell and I'm not about that at all. Also really strange, (one extreme to another) it doesn't have a prewash...at all, yet it has the compartment for it in the drawer.

Good points though are that, although basic, as a washer, it does just crack on, it goes straight into fill as soon as you start it no faffing about waiting to lock, doing a pre drain, and then it tends get straight on with the spins, I've not seen it have any issues balancing. I've attached a few pics

Hi Ross and welcome to Automatic Washer.

You will be pleased to know that you are not alone and that there are washer enthusiasts the length and breadth of the UK. I dont have that many 1990s machines in my collection - mine tend to be older although the odd, much newer machine, has also sneaked in.

Hope you enjoy it here and maybe sometime you can get to meet a few others - on teh link is the thread of our second last get together - we were so busy on the last one at the begninning of November I dont think we took any photos.

Al

Welcome!

Isn't this the sort of place you always wished to find, where people share your interests and no one gives you or the people behind you funny looks when you tell them that you collect appliances? I mean, if you have the room, whose business is it but yours if you have 9 electric ranges in your home or 9 dishwashers and we won't get into the washers, dryers and housewares and small electrics. It is a full fledged obsession and I offer no apologies.

Enjoy and have fun here.

Welcome to Automatic Washers !

I'm sure that you will continue to enjoy this site.

I don't have much interesting pictures of '90s appliances but you can take a look at some UK detergents from 1995 from my blog (Bold, Fairy, Daz)

Have a nice WE

Ingemar

Welcome Ross!

Also how are you Ingemar? Oh, I already "cracked it at the gym this morning"! Ate lots of turkey, and Thanksgiving holiday goodies yesterday and gained a pound of fluid ovenight from the extra salt and calories.
Peace! Mike.

Hi Mike and hi to all of you. I'm fine thanks :-)
How nice is to have friends from all over the world with the same passions.

I am glad to hear that you have had some nice holidays. When there are holidays we all eat more, it cannot be otherwise, so don't worry :P
