My Maytag tag says model is HA-207 and the Serial is 270984 possibly followed by hand written (faint) letters "SM". -- see pic. I bought it used around 1974.

I am curious about the "H" in the model number. I am thinking maybe the "H" indicates it was made to be sold by Sears (or other than a Maytag Dealer).

Also am curious about what appears to be that "handwritten SM" after the six digit serial #. Were date letters scribbled in rather than matching the 6 numbers?

I was surprised it had no damper pads when I disassembled it to replace same, due to a metal on metal sound when moving the tub. It was smooth moving till lately so I added what I assume were Teflon pads.

The leading letter on the model is a color code.  H = harvest gold.

SM = 1973 June

Response fits!

Thanks for the quick response as I know it was not more than months old when I got it used. The reason sold was because the owner passed away.

On recent disassembly the dome tube had a crack (plugged by carbonate hardness until disturbed), and the injector leaked after being bumped.

After adding damper pads, repairing the dome tube split and sealing the injector with a wider clamp (to eliminate leaking around the black injector tube) it runs well. That injector design was not first class.

Next, a new drum belt will insure it spins up to max speed.

I had a harvest gold machine of similar vintage exactly like that  for ten years, bought used in 1987.  It would not quit.
