Seller's comments:

"Older model Maytag Washer (A606) and Dryer (DE406) for sale... $250.00 or best offer. Just retested them again after sitting in storage. I found no problems with the washer. The dryer (220 volts) runs fine in the regular cycle, but in permanent press cycle acts as if it is in the regular cycle. You can see the blemishes in the picture."

The washer is a Maytag A606 but the dryer is a Maytag DE306. Not all A606’s were paired up with 606 dryers, and some were paired up with 306 and 407 dryers

That tacky "Heavy Duty" sticker is on a bunch of older Maytags... I can't remember what the purpose was - maybe just to look competitive with other brands?

Shouldn't the dryer have an aluminum dial, like the washer?

Maytag sales department distributed [ and often applied these to models in show rooms ] so Maytag could claim they had HD W&Ds like every other manufacturer was already stating on their machines. MT was doing this when I was working for them in the early 70s.

The funny thing was when one day I was trying to sell a MT washer to a Women she said she Did Not want a HD washer, she said it was only her at her house [ I guess she thought it would make more noise or some such reasoning ] So when she was looking at the dryers I pulled the sticker off the A606 she liked and I told her that her new washer would not be a HD model, and she bought it from us LOL.

Maytag was not very good at marketing, Consumer Reports was responsible for at least 25% of all their washer sales and almost 50% of DW sales in the 70s, this is also why that MT sold so few HOH dryers as they never got great ratings. Most of the customers came in an bought an A606 washer but we had a really hard time selling them a matching dryer, when we delivered the new washer there was often a new Frigidaire 1-18 dryer already there.
