Which version of Woolite?

There are so many nowadays.

Original version was nothing more than anionic surfactants mainly. Which was fine in terms of oil/grease/soil removal, but could leave things feeling rather harsh after drying. Also silks didn't have their original luster.

Perwoll is a blend of non-ionic, ionic, cationic surfactants plus balsam which cleans very well (but gently) and leaves woolens and silks soft and smooth.

Did several sweaters last week using Perwoll (am trying to use up bottles in my stash before they go off), and was that well pleased.

I use Perwoll Renew 3D for blacks and it’s fantastic. I’m a musician who wears a lot of black clothes and the Perwoll product keeps items blacker longer than Woolite for Darks. On the downside, Perwoll Renew 3D is stupidly expensive (currently $33 a bottle for 20 loads on Amazon), but I use only 1/4 to 1/3 of the recommended dose, which still produces plenty of suds, so I get many more loads per bottle.

My black clothes have to endure many washings. If your use of blacks is more casual or infrequent, the Woolite For Darks, which is relatively inexpensive and readily available at WalMart, Target, and many grocery stores will probably be fine.

Eucalan?

I’ve been using Eucalan. Can any of you comment?

Thanks

for the opinions.

I never wash things by hand and I’ve not tried Eucalan.

The reason I asked this question is that I’ve used Woolite’s regular machine and dark formulas with warm water for countless years to minimize fading in polo shirts and rugbys. It results in better color and shape retention than Cheer, and definitely better so than Tide. And it seems to get clothes cleaner than Cheer too. Even clothes that have gotten thoroughly saturated with perspiration and body oil doing manual labor on hot Summer days have come perfectly clean with no odor rebound. It doesn’t get out any stains though, except coffee. Have to use Persil for stains.

Anyway, out of curiosity I bought Perwoll color and dark formulas some time ago. And I’ve never been able to decide which is better.

Both require a hefty dose. I have Woolite with the color renew formulas but before the most recent reformulation that’s more concentrated. I have to pour Woolite to line one in the cap which is close to 1/2 cap and Perwoll about 3/4, almost a full cap, despite having a water softener, and even then there are barely any suds with any of these products. But those high amounts do get clothes very clean. That in contrast to a tablespoon or less with ordinary products (except for some other people’s very dirty clothes that have required four times that).

So I dunno. No complaints about Woolite. Perwoll seems to cause a little more fading and pilling than Woolite with newer clothes sometimes, yet other times with Perwoll a load of clothes comes out looking different, newer, brighter and deeper in color. And black underwear maybe came out a little more faded but a hair cleaner with Perwoll black than Woolite darks. Maybe?

Hard to decide. So I am curious what others think.

Clarification

Those doses are with a front loader
