Thomas and I picked up this Kenmore Calypso for Thomas yesterday (cheap) and in spite of the sellers description, it seems to do everything it's supposed to.... so far.

This afternoon while tinkering with it, I noticed there is a gap between the wash plate seal and the tub.  It's not big enough to get my finger into, but it is big enough for coins, paperclips (etc) to slip past it with ease.  Based on the noises I hear when the tub comes to a stop after spinning, sounds like a couple things have slipped by.

So the question of the hour is, will it still be OK to do normal laundry in, or is there a chance of fabric damage, or items getting stuck or.....?

I've seen it posted here that Calypso parts have been NLA a while now, but the question is: what to do next?

Thanks!
Kevin

Hi Kevin...

I have the same Calypso, picked up on my way to Jerry's wash-in last June in Pittsburgh. It was reported to have a bad pump, confirmed by Eugene(Lorainfurniture) and John(combo52) who happened to be there also, after expert diagnosis.

Found a used pump online and replaced, working well since. The only change I made was to bypass the lid switch.

John advised not to wash towels in the Calypso. The gap at the washplate and tub tends to pull the nap of towels and cause snags. That's about the only thing I don't wash in it and I haven't had anything get caught otherwise.

Hope that helps a little. I know there are others who know a lot more about this machine that I do.

Bill

Thanks for the info Bill, very much appreciated!

That is the same model! I must say I like the KM control panel MUCH better than the 2004 WP version I have! This almond KM Calypso will be going into Thomas's "Six Flags" as he calls it, once he's able to make room for it.

My Calypso, except for the piles of rust surprised it leaves on the ground every time I move it yell, still works great! Fortunately the wash plate seal, still seals against the tub as it's supposed to! I have washed towels (and all other regular laundry) in mine and not had any issues with damage, excess ware, etc on the textiles.

Using my designer skills...

Tomorrow (today) is the big day.

I'm about to go to bed for my beauty rest because I know a major layout change is waiting me tomorrow.

I'll have to move several machines to optimize every single millimeter of Six Flags. By Every single millimeter I really mean it.

It's like playing Tetris, but a much heavier and PITA version.

Unfortunately I'll have to say farewell to Megawash, SuperPop, the round prototype and one of the Silk Lux (of course the SCAW2GEN will go and the Silk Lux stays)

I'll also disconnect the Frigidaire stacked and let it ready for the day Kevin comes, so He can use the opportunity to take it to Disneyland for the heart transplant surgery.

If my plan (and hours of calculation work), the sequence, starting on the north wall will be Skinni mini cover, Samsung, Samtag, Calypso, (gap for Catalyst if Kevin decides to evict it), Maytag Wringer, Laundry sink with Maytag A50 in front of it, LG with Eggo on top of it, SQ Marathon, Thin twin, the beloved Magic Chef, SQ Ultra-big-boy-mate, Frigidaire stacked, Niagara, Hotpoint portable, World Washer, Mrs. 'Tag, Samsung dryer, SQ Marathon Dryer.

In the future, new machines only if something REALLY interesting appears, then I'll get rid of the samsung pedestals and stack them to get 27 inch more space for ONE machine.

Temporarily, I'll leave a walk space behind the east wall so I can replace all the Y-connectors when they arrive. After that, the only chore will be pushing all the washers against the wall.
