A warm welcome from another new washroom the Lincoln Launderette, designed and set up by our very own Darren (Slowspin66). What was once the garage for his beloved classic car, Dorris the Morris Minor Convertible , now wintering in a designated garage,
has been turned into a wonderful classic 1950`s washroom and vintage appliance display space...heres Darren (slowspin66) on the left and Richard ( ricky50) on the right.

The original Permutit water softening chamber is looking over the machines, not plumbed in yet, its a tall cylinder chamber that you fill with salt for a whole house water softening ,
this would be from a very affluent household and of course by "Royal Appointment to the Late King George VI" as well ..

Darren & Richard gets to grips with mounting the original Ascot in line water heater with calorifier, this would be plumbed in to the house hot water circuit and used as a back with say a Rayburn or Aga stove and act as a booster ,
the cast iron calorifier inside weighs a ton.

Richard loads up for a hot whites wash, now the hot line is plumbed into the powerful in line gas combi boiler that is back up with the Rayburn in the kitchen, the water shall we say is piping hot and all visitors are advised accordingly !!
But great to fill up the vintage washers, especially those without heaters, the Frigidaire first UK model spin dryer from 1963 is standing by to spin the clothes at 2,800 revs from the bendix 500rpm.

While the Bendixxii are washing lets have a look at the Parnall Corner, here we have from L - R a model EW60H from 1960 with front controls & EW601H from 1966 with the top mounted controls , these are semi automatic top loading washers with solid tubs and outer tubs act as Sudz Savers, so you can spin your wash, pump to outer tub to save, remove laundry, then add more dirty laundry and pump the water back to re-use ..

Filled up and washing away, it looks a myriad of pipes but each washer has One Fill Pipe and One Drain Waste Pipe, when pumping Waste Water to Sudz Save an internal pipe fills the tub back up. So you would place the fill on your Hot Tap or leave it on your Cold water tap if you wanted the Parnall to heat the water with its own 3kw powerful heater !!

These are based on the original Thor Automagic range and built under license by Parnall Radiation Company of London.

You have been busy, The wash-room looks great, I hope poor Dorris will be ok in her new home.

Can't wait to come visit again some time and see this in person.

Do you use any of the Ascot water heaters ?, They look really cool, I recycled an interesting 1980s water heating unit that was part of a Gas High-Efficiency  home water heater to heat the water for my hot-tub, works great.

I have started remolding my home laundry room, your progress will inspire me to keep plugging along,

Mike, Ricky and Darren [ and I am sure there are others ]Thanks for sharing

Hi Mike,

I was speaking to Darren about the Thor etc the other day, I think he has the earlier model if it's the one in the corner of the garage or it maybe it was a 260 that he got a few years ago, I can't remember if it was Darren or someone else.

I need to start to make one good one out of the 3 Foot pedal machines I've got, time is just never on my side these days. LOL

A sight to behold! In Reply 2, the Square open conventional, just begging for a load had me hooked, later learning that it was an English Electric
with dials and "levers" to die for. Then all those magnificent semi-automatics with suds-savers and hoses everywhere--pure washer fetish.

You know, considering the the way you gentlemen restore and celebrate wringers, twinnies, and semi-automatics--sometimes I think I was born in the wrong country.

Hi Eddie
The kitchen is a haven of warmth with the slow release heat from the Rayburn range and now also with the underfloor heating.

Morning Louis
Yes indeed, great selection of vintage irons from Morphy Richard Hoover & Hotpoint. Next step rotary ironer lol....

Hello Walter
Oh you did make me laugh with that comment, as we say the Devil in the Detail, its another lovely home and display space, Darren managed to source a box of vintage Bendix taps for each washer.

Hi Mickey
Oh you`ll be in washer heaven with this room, yes all those traditional wringer washers from English Electric and Hotpoint, the Bendix bolt downs which are not often found working by the need to actually square and bolt down.
The Parnal semi automatic top loaders are fab being able to control everything even the sudz save but watch those hoses ha ha..

Hi Martin
Thanks, great we are able to share, it makes the difference when a group who didnt know each before other come together through the love and hobby of appliances are now great friends.
Always fun, banter and laughter and like on this site its great to see appliances and different workings from all corners the world !!

Very well done! Congrats on such a massive effort, so well planned and executed, am just stunned taking it all in.

Then to top it all off G&T along with nibbles? May have to consider moving house to your side of pond. There is that darned cold and damp weather, but could lay in a supply of thick vests and pulls!

Enjoy the results of all your labors, well deserved.

Well the bell indicator came from an antique market/ junk . The bell itself and the Bakelite switch came from Ian Hazelhurst another good friend! It runs off a 12 volt transformer and Mathew Thomas tested the transformer to make sure we weren’t about to blow the box up or the house !!!
My very clever Uncle wired the box some years ago before he died . So again another team effort ......it’s a very useful apparatus when you have guests staying as they can call for tea in bed first thing in morning !!!!

"it’s a very useful apparatus when you have guests staying as they can call for tea in bed first thing in morning !!!!"

Oh no, no, no! No need for such early jumps. You should be employing the latest gadgetry - the Goblin Teasmade.

The detail.......

….the fabulous detail of it all; I am just over dosing on this thread like a cat that's found catnip.

Darren,

Do you use the vintage refridgerator and cooker?

Have you decorated/furnished the rest of the house in a similar style to the kitchen/pantry/laundry?

Regards, Walter.

A very well done Darren and team, it looks absolutely amazing. And thank you Mike for documenting and sharing the details so well. So interesting to see what members are doing.

Cheers, Alan

Hi Darren.

Absolutely wonderful!
Ooozes atmosphere and your restorations are superb - the bolt downs and Parnall's look in fabulous condition and your whole set up is a testament to the hard work put into the project.

Lovely that you have an operational LT - there were a couple of those knocking around in my family in the dim and distant past.

All the best to you.
Paul
