Checkrate/Likes I can tell by my own experience... Dec 29th 2015 I moved to the USA from Brazil. I brought a Brastemp Eggo (exactly like The Laundry Alternative Eco-Egg with me in the suitcase. Jan 2016 I arrived in Dallas, living in an Extended Stay America hotel, and having to choose between paying a fortune to wash my clothes in the nasty Speed Queen the hotel had (with horrible maintenance) or use the Eco-Egg several times per day to wash my uniform. Mar 2016 I bought my Magic CHef washer. I wanted something affordable that I could smuggle into the hotel. It turned out that the washer was way bigger than I thought (even being compact), but the hotel manager was super cool and let me stay with it. Ago 2016 I finally moved to Los Angeles, but spent a bit over a year living in a hotel until I finally found a nice place to rent. (Magic Chef came with me from Dallas and it was stored at my father in law's house, but I was already working at the laundry alternative and could smuggle a Super Compact Automatic Washer 1st generation to the hotel room). Oct 2017 I finally found the ideal place to rent. it has a giant laundry room (actually a converted 2-car garage) Since I moved here, there were several vintage (and modern washers) I always dreamed about having. In my whole life I never imagined someday I'd finally have a Speed Queen, a Maytag Wringer, a Whirlpool Catalyst, or worse, I thought the Speed Queen Ultra-mate was gone forever and not even one unit was left. They just happen. Exactly when you're not expecting, they appear out of nowhere. I had only compact washers from work and the magic chef. Kevin lent me a Samtag and a LG washer-dryer combo. He also sold me ( I don't really remember for how much, i think it was like $15 just to cover the gas expenses) a Whirlpool (or Kenmore, I don't remember) gas dryer that was in miserable conditions but worked... I finally had a full size gas dryer. AWO... A super nice member from Phoenix found a Hotpoint portable NEW IN BOX! He had no interest on keeping it so he sold it to me. (Ok, I got my first vintage washer, YAY, and what could be better than NIB? One day I'm doing nothing, decide to check Craigslist... BINGO! Speed Queen Ultra-Mate FOR FREE. The wash was abandoned under a tree for decades. I brought it home (Kevin helped me, like always) and to my surprise it was working perfectly! Some time later... Offer Up... Speed Queen Marathon pair.... I got it. Kevin Needed to clear some space in his private Disneyland, Maytag A50 came to my laundry room (Things started to look interesting, I named my laundry room Six Flags) AWO member wanted to get rid of a pair of samsung front loaders (similar to the Samtag) after getting a pair of turquoise Maytags. A pair for free in perfect running order. Then I found a Frigidaire gallery stacked unit on craigslist or facebook... dryer bad, washer ok.... Well, let it stay for a while.... weeks later, I found another unit, dryer OK, washer bad... Bingo again! (and Kevin saving my ass again) Then I found a Skinni Mini (WCI, Kenmore labeled) Not the best washer in the world but fun to play with. After that a Whirlpool Thin Twin, exactly the model I always dreamed about having... I don't even remember how much I paid for it but it was a silly amount. Maytag Neptune stacked.... same thing It was other dream machine because I was curious, but I didn't really loved maytag because of a bad experience i had in ONE cycle using my husband's neptune washer. It turned out that the Neptune is WONDERFUL and I'm now looking for another, TOL version washer only. A couple of weeks ago... SURPRISE! Kenmore Calypso on Facebook.... Super cheap... So cheap that i decide to take the risk. I was lucky again and twice... the seller had also a Whirlpool duet (Kevin got it) and instead of a discount, we just added $10 to the tag price.. Calypso went to Kevin's Disneyland for testing before coming to Six Flags. It turned out that meanwhile, Kevin also found other Miele pairs (yes, pairs, plural) and Disneyland had no more room for even a clothespin. Kevin had to get rid of some washers... At the same time, My Catalyst and Kevin's Maytag wringer and Kenmore Catalyst moved to Six Flags. Six flags is now packed, i literally have room for only one more 27 inch washer and organizing the layout was almost like playing tetris. I literally have 3mm clearance in one of the walls, the other i have half inch left. some less important machines had to go, but I'm more than happy, actually fascinated and completely in love with my laundry room that has probably 80% of the machines I always dreamed about. Six Flags is more than a laundry room. It's my lab, there i go to have ideas to design new washers and to test prototypes. Every single day I learn something different with vintage machines that I can bring to modern times. And when I'm not working, Six Flags is also my play room, my man cave, my relax room. It's not 100% ready, but it's a place i love. Some dream washers still on my list: Hoover twin tub Frigidaire Unimatic Bendix Economat Kelvinator with that orbital agitator Easy twin tub (Because Spiralator is my husband's screen name here) Bendix washer-dryer Whirlpool Washer-dryer Kenmore Washer-dryer (gas) Hoover Keymatic that had an impeller on the back of the drum (I had one when i was in college and that little thing was super fun to play with) Maytag Bravos XXXXXXXXXXXXXXL (that monster washer that I can imagine it's terrible, but I want to play with it even if for just a few days just because it's huge Kenmore Wringer just like that one somebody posted here recently that was in Florida in MINT condition.) Probably the most difficult to find is the Hoover Keymatic, but who knows? I'm sure someday I'll find one... or one will find me. I had to say all that to give you an advice. Why only one option? If you like them all, why not having all of them? They can appear in seconds or they can take decades to fall from the sky right on your lap. The only thing you can be really sure is that your dream machines will appear. When they appear, you won't say "I'll pass this because i want the other model first." You'll just grab it and love it. Good luck with your collection and I hope you can find them soon. I'll keep an eye open just in case I see one of those machines looking to be adopted and loved. About 2 months ago I saw a pair of westinghouse laundromats on facebook or craigslist... I let them pass thinking I wouldn't be able to find parts to restore them or room to keep them. Now I regret, because I now realized I had room for them at that time.
