Three years ago I bought a top of the line Maytag dishwasher. I came home and water was leaking in the basement. I figured out the culprit was the dishwasher. It was full of water and overflowing. Water was dripping slowly out of the fill outlet inside. What a bummer. Hopefully it’s just a water valve.

Hi, how is your dishwasher? My neighbors had a problem with a clogged sink.Maybe the kitchen sink drain pipes are clogged. The reason for the leak is that dishwasher discharge hose is connected to the sink drain. If the discharge hose is below the bottom of the sink, and the sink drain is slow, the water drains into the dishwasher and out onto the floor. You can consult a technician or call him. If you suddenly need

Fixed

It was the water valve. $280 repair. Bummer, but it’s fixed. I need to investigate if the part was still under warranty. Doubtful.

Interestingly, the repair guy volunteered that Whirlpool has been demanding return of failed water valves for quality control investigation regarding their part supplier. Q: so I’m not the only one and others have had this problem too? A: reluctant head nod yes.

I have two SQ FL washers, and both had to have water valve replacements not all that long ago. I wonder if SQ and WP/Maytag/KA dishwashers all use the same parts manufacturer/supplier.

What is the water pressure in your house?

It's a long story....but at one point in time we had to have our pressure regulator changed.  The plumber took it out all together stating I didn't need it but turns out I did.  My pressure was a little over 100 and the valve in my washing machine developed the same issue after some time.  I knew the pressure was higher because of a couple of obvious things.  The water out of the sinks was stronger and the sprinkler system needed adjusting but I never thought about the valve in the washer until it went out.  The repair man tested the pressure and told me it was most likely the reason the valve went out.  I switch dishwashers in and out so I didn't have one installed long enough to affect the valve there.

Seems suspect to me if all three in your house went out.

I'm glad to know this. Thank-you for posting. I have a year old Maytag dishwasher, I hope and pray I don't have any problems with it in the future. The dishwasher is better than the KA I had about 5 years ago.

I have a water pressure regulator

Thanks for the thought but it should be OK. It doesn’t seem like the water pressure has increased. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try finding one of those faucet gauges and testing it.

Maytag DW Inlet Valve Replaced

combo52's profile picture

Inlet valves are a major source of service calls on virtually all appliances, we see it everyday from Bosch-Speed Queen.

$280 is a lot of money for a simple 15 minute replacement of a part that is only about $50, I wish I could charge nearly $800 an hour for repairs, but one of the advantages of living in a big metropolitan area is that quality services often cost less with more choices.

Our total repair cost for replacing this valve on a MT DW In DC would be about $140 including service call charges.

Whirlpool can not demand old parts be returned on out-of-warranty jobs, but there is no reason not to give it back to them unless you want it. There are lots a damage and liability clames every year stemming from water damage caused by inlet valves that fail to shut off completely and I sometimes think that WP, etc wants to control the evidence by taking to old part that caused the problem, If an appliance ever causes damage to your home or an injury do not let the part or appliance be taken away from your home without consent from your insurance Co or if severe your attorney.

I didn’t even think of that

As for the reason why he said he was taking the failed valve. Duh! (directed at myself). I guess it didn’t occur to me because the water leak didn’t really cause any damage to speak of and I am not making any insurance claim or litigating. So I have to admit I didn’t even think of that. Pretty slick to tell service people to take the old part for that perfectly innocent-sounding stated reason when the underlying motive is quite different. LOL

The SQ inlet valve replacements were absolutely free. And hassle free too! :-)

Good to know this is happening a lot because I was wondering if it was due to a problem with my water.
Now I’ll stop wondering about other problems.
