A small custom cabinet maker shop located in a small Michigan town was being liquidated a couple weeks ago and there were lots of interesting items there, especially if you were looking for wood working equipment. There was an old showroom and one of the displays had this GE drop in range with P7 self cleaning. It was headed to the dumpster and a friend of mine saw it and grabbed it for me.
I’m thinking of installing it in my new home in a Croswell. Can anyone date it for me? Model JM-93R Thanks! |

I'd say early 70's - it looks like a more basic model of the first GE Mark 27 my neighbors had (Avocado). They got it in summer of '73. Lawrence (Pulltostart) should have more exact date info. That's a beautiful find! |

Hi Kevin, Thats a very good range, and very energy efficient as well, you will love the simplicity of cooking on this range. [ Just don't let Hans cook on it when he visits, LOL ]
We used to work in a big house in Chevy Chase Maryland that had two of these in white installed in the kitchen about 18" apart in the countertop with a hood over each.
It is such a crime that things like this actually get thrown away at times, I grabbed a 27" 1975 TOL GE double wall oven in harvest gold from a GE showroom where the dealer was closing his doors about 8 years ago and installed it in the weekend house, first brand new oven I ever owned, and it works perfectly. I even sent in the computer punch card warranty card and GE offered to sell me a contract when my warranty when the warranty expired in a year, LOL

Great find! Can't think of a better owner of a piece of NOS cooking equipment than you.
The earliest that I find a JM93 is in 1970. It is a cheaper version of the JM95, having a solid oven door and a short, chrome handle. The earliest that I find the JM93R designation is in 1973. However, according to GE's date coding, "R" is the year designation for 1972.
Check your Serial Number and go to the GE web page (linked) and it should answer your question pretty definitely. GE hosed up their (logical and well-working) date codes during the 1960's, so appliances from the 60's can be difficult to pin down date wise, but by about 1970 they were back on track and have been pretty consistent since that time. So you should be able to tell from your Serial Number when this Mark 27 was manufactured.
