This has been re-listed on the San Diego Craigslist. The price has been reduced to $30. Ad says there's a crack in the glass near the clock although I don't see it in the photos. It certainly is a very attractive thing. Maybe someone could learn to live with the crack.

Nice overall

I believe I see a couple of cracks in the white glass to the upper left of the clock. A glass company should have something suitable to replace it with.

Nice Range

I have an extra glass panel for this range if someone buys it, It would be almost impossible to have this glass made by a glass company with all the holes in it, and it is all one piece with all the markings painted on the back and front of the glass.

John, I was thinking the plain white portion that appears cracked would be separate from the black glass section with the clock and controls. I agree that part would be a difficult to make.

Broken Glass

Hi Tom, You can even see in the 2nd photo that the glass is cracked below the trim in the black area.

I still think that for thirty bucks you could learn to live with the crack. I've lived with mine for 70 years and it's a lot more ugly than the one on that range.

John

I didn't notice the crack in black area until you mentioned. I'm having to look at everything on my phone since library is closed.

Glass impossible to reproduce!

I have a 1957 RI-39-57 that had broken glass in the back panel. I was able to find a replacement. I thought it was interesting that the breaks were primarily behind the left rear burner. It looks like the range in this thread has a similar break pattern. I wonder if a pan would have come in contact with the chrome backsplash frame and cracked the glass. So many if these ranges have broken glass panels.

I kept a picture of the broken glass I replaced. It would be very hard to duplicate in my opinion. The panel is one piece and heavy. I do have an extra backsplash for a 1958 and 1959 Custom Imperial with good glass but not this 1957.

At $30 it would be a great buy!

Broken Control Panel Glass On Ranges

combo52's profile picture
This often happens from leaving an element on at a high heat without a pan on the element or too small a pan that does not cover the outer part part the element.

[ This is a good reason that ranges should not have large or very powerful burners at the rear ]

Several customers have also told me that they were frying on a rear burner-element and hot grease splashed or popped up hitting the glass and broke it.

I'm very surprised that the glass panels are one piece. I would have expected separate parts on each side of the chrome trim. I'm also surprised Frigidaire didn't use heat resistant glass, as they used in oven windows.

How is the white part made? Is it a fired-on enamel finish?

Users were often chased to the rear units by malfunctioning or non-functioning Heat Minder and or Speed Heat units.
