To boost our spirits while at home I thought a little line dried laundry might do the trick. Scents can influence a person's mood a great deal.

It's been a couple of weeks since we had a warm and sunny spell that facilitated line drying, otherwise my fleece sheets would be on hanging outside right now instead of tumbling in the gas-fired Neptune.
People around here are putting holiday lights up again, and even lawn decorations. Whatever floats your boat, I guess, but I'm not on board. Others are placing a single lamp in a front window. That's a compromise I can support.

well the CDC recommends that we wash clothes in the hottest water possible, mainly 140 degrees minimum and dry clothes in the dryer...for at least 28 minutes on high...
but I am game for hanging them outside, especially bed linens.... to kill boredom, or past the time away, I am washing in the wringer.... @Ralph, I am on board with your lamp....but prefer something a bit more manly

Yogi, if this goes on much longer we may be going to the store in a mask and gloves. Tommie the Wolfman decided to close "nonessential businesses" and on his list, anything to do with yarn, fabric, textiles, or clothing is totally shut down. He even closed laundromats until people objected and just reopened them. We will eventually have no clothes? I mean, it's still cold here!

The Corona was the first model Toyota sold in the US. David owned a 1972 Corona for a very brief time. It was a really nice car, seemed almost luxurious to the 71’ Maverick that we also had.
The Corona had pretty good power for a 4 cyl, at the time. We only owned it for about a month, then the timing chain broke. David only bought to to commute to Marin Co. for a USPS job, that he later quit. It was the only time we ever owned two cars at once.
Toyota during the 70’s sold three different models here, the entry level Corolla, the mid range Carina and the of the line Corona.

and please excuse my surely incorrect spelling of this German phrase.
Since I injured my right leg last Tuesday I’ve been unable to take my daily 45 to 60 min, walk, and I feel like a caged animal. Those daily walks are my stress reliever, and boy do I need them now. This sprain is one of the very worst I’ve ever had. Twice, in the past I’ve had my leg in a cast for 4 to 6 weeks with an injury just like this one. But theres is no way I’m going to Kaiser now. Fortunately, I’ve plenty of experience in taking care of an injury like this one, and if these were normal times I’d have gone to the doctor.
I immediately applied ice after the injury, and elevated it. My whole calf filled with blood and drained down to my foot, the swelling was very bad. I’m certain that the Prednisone I was taking to clear up the hearing loss in my right ear was the cause for the excessive internal bleeding, and probably contributed to the sprain in the first place.
Thankfully, everyday its been getting better. Today is the best so far, the bruising and swelling are beginning to diminish and I hope to be able to take short walk either this afternoon or tomorrow. I’ve managed the pain with Salonpas and Tylenol, even though we have lots of Opioid meds from previous dental procedures and my hip replacements. I refuse to add insult to injury and get a case of terminal constipation on top of everything else. Last night I switched to aspirin, since the bruising is subsiding and its really helped to reduce the swelling.
At least the Prednisone helped my ear, and I don’t think I’m going to loss the hearing in that ear. And thank God I finished the 10 day course of Prednisone, I’m NOT taking anymore of it!
Just like Nana Roseanna Dana says, “It’s always sump-tin”.
Hope all the rest of you out there are doing OK.

‘68 Corona: My 4th grade teacher had one! It was brand new at the time. She gave me a ride home after school once and I thought it was a very cool, exotic car. Had forgotten all about them.
Eddie- I am with you in your dislike of Prednisone. Makes me jittery and cranky. Take care and hopefully your leg will allow you to get out for walks before long. Good thing you are an edibles chef, LOL! Battling COVID-19 Boredom: Cooking, reading, watching vintage TV series on YouTube (am in the middle of a run through the Burns & Allen Show) & listening to various groups’ albums in chronological order. Thanks Eugene! Today my leg is better, and has been improving for the last two days. I hope to take a short walk this afternoon with David. I have to say that on Sunday I was kind of worried about it, and hoped that I did the right thing by avoiding going to Kaiser. But the color and circulation is improving and the swelling has gone down to close the what my leg normally is like.
As for the edibles, I’m rationing them right now. Normally a have one in the afternoon and one in the evening. I don’t know if its a good idea to go in to the Ye Olde Pot Shoppe right now if I can help it, its usually pretty crowded, and my guess is that everyones hoarding pot now too.
Luckily my last batch was very potent, got some really good indica bud, so I’m only eating one thumb sized square about a 1/2 hr. before dinner and it does the trick. I have my process very well refined and the last batch worked out to 30mg of THC per square and each batch makes 64 doses.
Tomorrow we’ll make a swift visit to Target and get some things to carry us thru the next 2 weeks. I hope that I can get at least 5 lbs.of flour.
Actually, if I hadn’t injured my leg and could have gone on my daily 45 to 60 min walks this social distancing and staying home wouldn’t have been as difficult. We stay home most of the time anyway. And having grown up in a home with parents that went thru the Depression, I’ve always had non perishable staples on hand to last at least a few weeks in an emergency. But I have to say the uncertainty of not knowing if it will be safe to venture out to a store or anywhere for that matter in a few weeks when I expect the peak to hit here is troubling. This too shall pass, but not soon enough!
Eugene and everyone out there please stay safe!

Eddie, I have found that striking a balance with a CBD and THC combination can be very effective, and when I get it right, I feel awake and alert as opposed to doped up, as it were. I don't use this formula on a regular basis, so I buy gummies of both to keep on hand to use on an as-needed basis. The wild cherry and sparkling pear "Camino" variety's flavors from Kiva Confections are really good!
Dispensaries around here are offering pick-up and delivery only, with sales floors closed. I've heard that waits are long, so I'm staying away for now.
I hope you feel better fast.

Thanks Ralph for your well wishes!
CDB doesn’t do jack for me, I need my THC and have a high tolerance. My edibles are worlds better than anything I’ve bought from the dispensary. I make my own canna butter and after some experience its not hard at all.
I’m glad you’ve found the combo of THC and CDB that works for you. In my opinion edibles are the best way to use cannabis. It’s much easier on the body than smoking and the effects are longer lasting and mellower, at least for me. And less expensive.
I can make 64 doses for about $95.00 for a 1/4 oz. of Indica with at least 26% THC. And my local dispensary does offer delivery, but its only a 15 min walk from my front door and if I order online its ready for pick up in the express line when I get there.
I’m so grateful that we can now legally buy pot in California. The tax is very high though, 29.5% in my town. My dispensary does give 10% senior discount, so that takes some of the sting out of the high tax.
Stay safe in San Jose my friend!

Hunkered down here in the NorCal corona epicenter!
Agreed that edibles are better than smoke for pain relief, and that smoke is infinitely safer than vaping for recreational use.
Now if the weather would just improve enough to get out and do some gardening! Maybe next week per the long range forecast. |

I just got back from a short walk to Walgreens, the first in 8 days, and my leg feels better having stepped up the circulation in the muscles. It’s only about 3/4 of mile round trip, but its a start, and I’m so happy that I’m seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Plan on walking further tomorrow. So good to feel the sunshine and breath fresh air! Very few cars out and gas has gone down to $3.159 per gal for reg unleaded.
Also, was able to get two 5 lb bags of flour, I’ll be set now for at least 3 weeks for flour! Also 2 cans of salmon enough for two nights of dinners, I’ll make some salmon patties, a box of saltines, 2 boxes of raisin bran, 3 cans of Campbells soup, some coffee, Sudafed, Claritin, over $66.00 with a $5.00 off coupon and my Walgreens card. Now will need to buy very little at Target tomorrow.
No hand sanitizer, and very few people into store. There were strips of tape on the floor to insure 6 feet distancing of customers. Shelves were sparsely stocked, no paper products, but we are OK in that dept.
Got back in the nick of time, we are having a pretty good downpour of rain now. Eddie |

We went for a 30 min walk this afternoon and covered about 1.5 miles, usually would have been 2 miles in 30 mins, but I still can’t walk as fast as usual.
I have still been doing my daily 45 mins. of exercise on the living room floor everyday since the injury, but I did leave the ankle weights off for the first 2 days of recovery. This has not been unlike recovering from my two hip replacement surgeries. I do 150 ab crunches and 135 pushups everyday, broken up into three sets of 50 and 45, respectively, along with other leg strengthening and stretching exercises. Daily exercise is very important to maintaining good health, and I always feel better after I’ve done it. Exercise is a great way to break the COVID-19 boredom, and its free.
I bought a really good ankle brace at Target yesterday when I went shopping and it helped a lot. I normally weigh myself everyday after my walk, I’ve fought excess avoirdupois all my life, and a daily check helps to keep me on track. But since the injury 10 days ago I haven’t weighed myself. So when I got back today I thought I’d better face the music, even if I still can’t dance. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find I’d actually lost 3 lbs. Cutting down portions sizes while I’ve been laid up helped. So, this was my good news for the day.
We only saw a handful of people, and everyone was very careful to keep 6 ft. or more distance. The traffic is like it was 40 years ago when there was about 2500 pop. in or town which is now over 7000. And on the news the shots of the Golden Gate Bridge look like it was in the 1947 movie “Dark Passage” in the scene where Lauren Bacall drives her 46’ Ford Woody station wagon over the bridge, maybe 5 cars, unbelievable! People in the Bay Area are taking this serious as a Heart Attack, as they should, and with luck perhaps our fatality rate won’t be as high as other areas. All we can do is our best.
Everybody, please stay safe!

Thats a great post Barry! I have a tendency to blow up like a balloon if I don’t watch it.
One thing that is keeping me from overindulging is the realization that the time may come, sooner that any of us can imagine, when we will be unable to get out of our homes at all to buy groceries.
So with that in mind I have purposely reduced our portion sizes to make what we have go as long as possible. We still have dessert every night, but its most of the time jello with some canned fruit. I’ve been baking a cake or some cookies once a week, and we make them last much longer than we used to.
I know that I’m as full of sh*t as a Christmas Turkey with the old time sayings, but “Waste not Want Not” seems to be very apropos at this time.

I know how you feel. Watching this all unfold is unbelievable and surreal, something I never thought I’d see.
It’s difficult to get away from it. But having already been retired for 14.5 years I have found that I need to make my own routine and schedule, and this has helped me keep on track. I still do my 45 mins of exercise every morning, in front of the TV watching the news. And I do a daily walk everyday at least 45 to 60 mins. Both of these things really help relieve stress. I’m now getting back to normal with my right leg and walking more everyday. Today I wore a mask the whole way. And from now on I’m wearing one every time I leave home.
As far as doing extra projects that need to be done, uh no, I’ve been letting these go. But keeping up with the cooking , laundry, exercise and VERY occasional shopping is enough for now. Oh, and baking the bread too, also a stress reliever.
But one thing that has also helped me get things done is make a list of things to do. Nowadays, that usually just a note, do XYZ tomorrow, and if I write it down, thats like an order to myself to do it, and I do. Whatever works is what I say.
Anyway , I know how you feel, but hang in there and no matter what keep yourself safe my friend. We can and WILL get through this!
