Sent an email to the seller. I'm hoping he's willing to ship it to me. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks, John!  Still haven’t heard back from the seller.   Hope all is well with you.  After this Corona thing is over, come to Rhode Island for a visit.    I recently replaced all my kitchen appliances.  I went with Whirlpool.  Hope I made the right choice.

Ron

I emailed the guy as soon as I saw this post Ron about 12:30 today central time and he responded to me pretty quick. The unit right here in Minneapolis and I'd love to try it in my machine. I'm going to pick it up on Saturday. I'll be sure to make sure it get's to you at some point in the not too distant future.

I'm having a hard time accepting that anyone would want to use a dishwasher insert in the same machine they use to wash dirty diapers and underwear.  Am I missing something, or is this indeed why these things are so rare?

Robert thank you for being so thoughtful and saving it for all of us, especially for Ron's future.

OMG! What a find!  I think 2020 is on its way to becoming the 'year of the vintage dishwasher' the way some rare and unusal ones are surfacing.  There's hope for me to find a Tappan Dual-Drench when I can finally travel to the US again!

I also wondered about washing dishes in a washer that's had diapers, underwear, greasy clothes, etc.

Washer tub vs Dishwasher tub

turquoisedude's profile picture

That was probably the big objection buyers had regarding these Thor AutoMagic machines, however the inner tubs were completely separate and the ads of day stated that one wasn't washing dishes in the tub that had washed grimy clothing.   The inner tub was a whole other matter....

It actually is an engineering marvel. The washing machine unit and the dishwasher units are completely separate. No chance of "cross-contamination."

I understand they are separate units. But doesn't the same water that goes through the washer outer tub, go through the dishwasher tub?

Absolutely not. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures, but the entire tub for the washing machine is removed, leaving just a shaft. Then the entire dishwashing unit is placed in the machine. I'm probably not explaining that very well, but perhaps you get the idea.

Makes sense.

Did Thor make a cabinet to keep the spare tubs in, I can imagine that the housewife would leave the dishes tub in except for wash day.

Where do you put the large tub and harmonic balancer (Did it come out as well) while the dishes tub was in there.

The water stays seperate, because of solid tubs it enters from the top and spin drains, no water recirculation occurs at all.

Perhaps when Robert picks up the unit on Saturday, he’ll post some pictures that will explain things better than I can.

I would like to see that in action, I'll bet it's fascinating!

It is.  Check YouTube.  I think Chuck and Rich posted a video of theirs in action.

Did Thor make a cabinet to keep the spare tubs in?

Nathan, that was a key feature of the Thor version of the "electric sink" - the sink cabinet had the room to store the tub that was not in use.  These Thor sink units were an optional extra to the Lustron home.
