If this were a 46, the agitator and safety bar on the wringer would be red Bakelite. If they were from the mid 50s, thru the mid 60s, those parts would be black. If the machine, like this one, had them in turquoise and the plastic were Polypropylene, the date would be from the mid 60s on. 

 

There used to be a joke at the height of the Red Scare of the early 50s asking what was the similarity between the Communist Party and the Maytag Company. The answer was tens of thousands of red agitators.
