I found a MAH5500BWW on Facebook marketplace I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.
I posted this in imperial because if the serial number ending is YH or earlier then it is 20 years old or more. I have had past experience with the Neighbors MAH4000AWQ. Is there anyway to tell if it has the 12002039 pre-installed or if I will need to order it if it fails? or do I have to remove the front cover and look in? I'm taking it regardless but just to save a bill of $120 on it. I already need to get the bearings and seal. Description of the listing is: Still runs and washes clothes (gets loud during spin cycle).

Picked up

I picked it up today and the bearings were toast. like literally. the tub dropped as if the spider was broken. It has the original Switched Reluctance motor. I hope it doesn't short on me and fry the transistors anytime soon. I love the sound.

I have a MAH4000 running at 21 years old. Original motor and control boards.
I bypassed the lock system. Usually it’s the wax motor that burns them up. Otherwise it’s a great machine. I have two young kids that generate so much laundry. I’m surprised it hasn’t died yet.

If my memory serves me right. Mah5500a was a push button and mah5500b was the new wave style control panel. Those wave style control panels had their problems pretty much worked out by then.

Hi Kelly, we still have several of the original motors and boards lying around for these if you need one.

They did make a cool sound.

Hold on to them!

The one that came with mine still works. I updated a friends MAH4000AWQ for the 12002039 and that completely ruined it for me. no more groaning/whirring. And no more Whirling on the final spin. this MAH5500BWW is JAN 2001. Hold on to those old ones. I don't want to ruin my very own. if it already had the 12002039 I would have said GOSH DANG IT! How much would the motor on it's own cost we have a soldering iron to fix the board in the event of a failure.

I parted out a MAH6500AWW. Took the door,12002039 motor conversion upgrade and the boards. I will probably install the 12002039 the next Time I use it. I want to preserve the original setup. The bearings were actually good and now I am concerned that someone just got their tax refunds and bought GARBAGE! new machines. The set was there. I wonder if I just dismantled a perfectly working washer.
