Reply #17: Didn't know Westinghouse made a twin-tub washer. Love the look of the lid on what I'm assuming is the spinner. Not bad for 1932. Wonder if the front-loading automatic was in the development stage at that point?

Reply #13: How thoughtful of Bendix to put an opener with a hopper to hold the bottle-tops on the front of their dryer.😂

That Philco ad with the woodgrain front--clearly they spread some knowledge around from the Ford station wagon plant--evidently there was an exchange program between the Colony Park/Country Squire plant with the Philco plant.

The Philco bottom-freezer is again very similar to our 1964 model which wasn't as deluxe but had a foot-pedal to open the freezer.

Who all caught that the Frigidaire room a/c has a dual-compressor for better humidity control and reserve capacity for daytime cooling?

Yes Glenn...

I saw that too and scratched my head. No wonder a "Room A/C" from back then would cool multiple rooms.

Two compressors plus R-22 ??? That's some cold stuff !!!

My dad's uncle's grocery store had Frigidaire air conditioning, installed in 1955. It was used until the business closed in 1974. It was cool in that store even in the hottest weather.

That Premier Upright Vacuum is just like my very first vacuum that I got when I was 5 years old.   I always loved to vacuum, and when my grandparents bought a new Hoover Convertible Upright in 1956 they gave me their old Premier.

I was in 7th heaven!  I literally slept with my  “Creamy Air” ( I somehow couldn’t pronounce “Premier” correctly so it was a Creamy Air to me LOL) right next to the head of my bed.  Once I fell out of bed during the night and my face landed on the Premier right next to the bridge of my nose and my right eye socket, and to this day I still have a slight scar as a remembrance of the fall.

I was so lucky that my parents and grandparents humored my fascination with all appliances.  They used to say, “ Someday he’ll grow up to make someone a good wife”, in gentle jest I’m sure.  Little did they know that they were as prophetic as Nostradamus LOL, only I prefer the title of husband!

Reply #89 -- those radios are surprisingly expensive.

When transistor radios first came on the scene in the late 50’s they were like when iPods first came out.  They were really coveted and therefore very expensive.

Once they became more commonplace in the early 60’s the prices came down pretty quickly.  Everyone wanted to have a “transistor” with an earphone so you could listen to it anywhere.

I got my first one in 1961 it had a nice leather case with holes in the case over the speaker so you could leave it in the case while listening to the radio, cut outs for the volume and tuner dials, a strap handle and a little leather pouch for the earphone that snapped onto the handle.  I think it was a Toshiba.

Crosley

Until I saw the 1947 Crosley ad above, I was not aware they ever made gas ranges.

I have a friend that lives a few blocks from the Crosley Building on Arlington St. It's still empty, but they're hoping to make it into apartments or condos in the future.
