I have one just like it. Found it NIB 15 or so years ago. Has been a daily driver ever since. They are great washers.

Early 60s, metered fill but one speed.

Question about a timed fill Maytag with sudssaver: I guess that there was nothing to prevent an overfilling disaster if someone did something like add extra water to the suds tub during the suds return sequence.

This washer isn't timed fill.  There are the 3 water level buttons on the left of the timer.  Far right buttons are speed selection.

A300 Metered Fill One Speed

I did not say it was timed fill. When I looked up the model, I saw that the A 200 under it was timed fill and was available as a sudsaver model, A200S and just got to wondering if there was any kind of deadman's switch for such a situation as I outlined.

A bakelite agitator and the original chrome lint filter. This machine would be worth driving a couple hundred miles just for those two parts alone.

Stainless steel lint filter.

Thanks for the correction. But just to clarify, vintage cars like the one I’m restoring at the moment have a great deal of stainless trim that’s generically referred to as chrome. It’s in that context that I used the word. But I appreciate your desire to be precise.

We had the matching electric dryer when I was just small.  When it was replaced in 1976 I got to keep the timer knob which was great.  I made my own pretend appliances and used the knob on it.  lol

Chrome subjected to expected long term moist conditions in the center of the agitator would not hold up as well as good quality stainless steel. A control panel would be a different situation as would auto trim not subjected to persistent moisture or SALT unless the chrome was heavily and regularly waxed. I remember discovering slight corrosion on the interior chrome in a friend's car who lived on the coast and tackling it with Flitz polish. There was an iconic coffee table from a foreign designer that was available in tubular stainless steel or, at a lower price, in chrome plate. A designer friend in Floriduh told me as I was admiring his table in his living room about a client who was complaining that her coffee table was pitting. She lived on one of the islands and he had her check her contract for the table. On it he had written that against his advice, the client ordered the chrome plate table instead of the stainless steel one and it would not stand up to the salt air as well as the stainless one.
