after a lapse of almost 8 years i have gotten back into my applaince hobby, mainly as a way to stay positive during the past couple months. tonite i thought i'd revisit my g.e. bowtie that i picked up in toledo ohio around 10 years ago.
it came from kelleys island and was kept in a summer home there i was told. as a huge lake erie fan and having been to kelleys island many times, as well as put-in-bay this little g.e. always seemed special to me. it needs to be sanded down and painted and i plan on doing that as soon as the weather warms up a bit here in ohio. gonna paint it pink i think. those hoses are frayed but don't leak and the sink adapter works well. the pump works great as you can see when it drains. wish i could see inside when it is washing. guess i could do that with some plexiglass. maybe later. the main front access panel if off and basically looks about as rusted as the rest of the machine. | ||

i took the fill solonoid off
and gave it a tuneup when i first got this dishwasher, put a new washer in the hose this week. was dripping a bit.
when the fill solonoid comes on it simply shoots water down a spout into the tub! i always loved that big control knob they had! and when it gets to a certain point in the dry cycle it pops the lid open! i love all the old g.e. dishwashers, i have another impeller machine thats even older out in the shed, with the bakelite impeller. plan on bringing it in later this year and getting it going too. for now i'll play with this one! i even have an extra motor, pump, and impeller i bought on ebay about 8 years ago for this g.e. if this motor goes out or starts leaking. the drain impeller is pressed onto the shaft, don't think i could replace a pump seal even if i could find one. so when the times comes it will get a new motor! | ||

couple more shots of it here. the tub is in pretty good shape, no rust but a lot of scale buildup in the bottom.
here's the front panel, also badly rusted. i will post pics later when i get it painted pink, i think it deserves to be pink! when the timer gets to the end of the dry cycle all you have to do is close the lid again and it advances to the start of the first rinse. hope you enjoyed this as much as i did, was goin nuts here in march and april, all the doom and gloom hitting me in the face every day. then i started diggin out and working on my appliances and i'm feeling 100% better! working on a rollermatic and 4 dishwashers at the present time! and i'm an official old man now, got my medicare card in the mail this week and my first social security check today! so i think it's only fitting that i return to my old appliances that i loved collecting so much! nothing in the present day world gets me excited, that's for sure! send me back to the days of coppertone, avacado, and harvest gold, please! thanks for lookin! | ||

and hope this little g.e. bowtie from so many years ago brought some happiness to all who viewed this post, especially these days with all the seriousness of corona going on!
it definitely is noisy and it does shimmy when it washes! all those old g.e. mobile maids, even the ones with the vertical pump and motor sounded like a freight train! that's what I love about em! nobody cared! they worked! this one is gonna take some serious sanding and a few coats of rusty metal primer to get it ready for it's upcoming pink paint job, probably do it on the back porch this summer. it does look like sister bertrille's cornette a bit doesn't it?! speaking of spin tubes, paul I hope that spin tube you got from me is still running fine. I tried to send you an email not too long after you got it to thank you for giving it a good home but not sure if you got it or not. your pick up driver was a very nice and interesting lady. anyway hope you still have it. anyway, thanks to all and I will add that I just did my first road trip in about 8 years and picked up a very cute little toploader that I will post here in a separate thread! pete | ||
