A while back we had a thread on cleaning coffee pots, etc.  I had mentioned that I used OxiClean and it worked FAST.  I noticed this morning that my coffee keeper needed a cleaning.  I make pour over coffee every morning and then store it in this thermos so every few weeks it needs a cleaning.

I'll apologize in advance for the quality of the video.  I was trying to hold the phone while cleaning the thermos and I didn't do either very well but you get the idea.  I usually add a couple of tablespoons to the thermos and fill it with really hot water.  It will usually sit for a few seconds and then foam up and run over.  As soon as that happens all you have to do it rinse it out and it's perfectly clean.  I normally wipe down the lip with the solution but I couldn't while I was cleaning the thermos.  I have used this method on coffee pots, glass coffee pots and mostly on the thermos I use daily.

I've been using citric acid, which is what the manufacturer recommends (instead of vinegar) for running through my automatic drip brewer.  I replaced the included carafe and filter basket with a Chemex carafe system.  After running the citric acid solution through the machine, with the carafe full I use a bottle brush to remove the discoloration toward the bottom of it.

I've also used about a teaspoon of LemiShine in hot water to clean out thermal carafes, with excellent results.  Much better than trying to remove the residual smell of vinegar.

Since our trusty Braun quit a while back, we've been using a Krups, which brews directly into a thermal carafe.
Nothing that I've used on it gets it as clean as I want it to be.
I'm going to try this!
