We celebrated the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) as bank holiday and as we are all still in nationwide lockdown with Covid19 we had a virtual meet, everyone filmed their own day and shared for us all to see
so grab a coffee and see how we enjoyed the festivities. If anything it gave us reflection time to make sure we work towards no future wars and to celebrate those who fought for our freedom today !!

Join us for breakfast Alistair brewing breakfast tea with his Swan vintage kettle, Mikey shows us the new / old retro Morphy Richards centenary kettle and Jamie whips up a batch of waffles. A welcome introduction from Richard (Ricky50)
showing us his washroom in his mums house from the medieval village of Medomsley, in the County of Durham, Northern England , UK

Starting the laundry is Darren with his Hotpoint Empress wringer washer, these where the backbone of British washday along with the Creda Debonair, Britains favourite spin dryer which revolutionised washday enabling the housewife
to speed up the drying process on many rainy days.

Steve (SESteve) demonstrates his Hotpoint 1504 Toploader, based on the GE Filterflow design,in his new utility room. Ian shows us the smaller Hotpoint Countess with front controls with power wringer,
and Jamie uses his Hotpoint 15792 Hotpoint Filter Flow in almond using Britains best selling washing powder Persil.

Darrens recently renovated Pye valve radiogram from the 1950`s broadcasts the official 11am 2 minute silence.

Video introduces Darrens Pye Radiogram with Dame Vera Lynn broadcasting to the troops "Well Meet Again, Dont Know Where, Dont Know When" which was the nations favourite tune of the day ....

Alistair (Vacbear58)demonstrates the 1960`s Vactric (Think Apex) Wringer washer with a very unique green fiberglass washtub complete with power wringer.

Steve (SESteve) using his Hotpoint Microprofile 9567 computer washer on a cottons programme number 2.

Alistair shows us the badged models from Hoover & Creda for our local Electricity Boards and shops under the brand name Electra.

And Richard back in his washroom takes us through his Hoover EcoLogic 1100 spin washer using the programme B wash , a 60d hot cottons wash for bedding !!

Darrens (Slowspin66) Pye Radiogram broadcasts our Prime Minister of the day Sir Winston Churchill his message to that nation for the end of war and hostilities.

Final part 3 starts with Darrens favourite valve Radiogram made by Pye and the favourite Boogey Woogey tune !!

Darren uses the first Hotpoint twintub , the Supermatic 1400. Richard talks us through his renovations on his Hotpoint 1501 Filter-Flow top loader and oil change.

Now our cooks take over, first up is Mathew (Keymatic3203) using his trust 1960`s Kenwood Chef model 701 whipping up a batch of Bara Brith, a traditional Welsh fruit loaf. Alistair makes a pan of delicious Leek & Potato soup for lunch,
I use the Kenwood Chef 1972 Mixer Cookbook baking "Dr. Mays" traditional fruit sponge cake in the Kenwood Major, Alistair bakes up a his version of Brown Betty adapted from a family Apple Crumble recipe,
Jamie whips up an Oreo choccy caramel cheesecake, and Alistair whips up a fabulous Creme Patissiere, layers of airy sponge layered with creamy chocolate filling using three vintage hand mixers by Kenwood and Sunbeam.

Jons shows us his new washroom using his 1980`s Hotpoint 9540 LE (Low Energy) 1000 spin front loader along with a late Hotpoint Aquarius WD71 washer dryer and his Hoover 1100 spin Electron.
All that washing now needs pegging out and we walk around Darren`s Lincoln garden and Steves london retreat.

Darrens radiogram blasts out Chatanooga Choo Choo to get us in the mood for a presentation by Hoover Area Sales Manager extrordinaire Mr. Chumley Warner (aka the lovely Richard).

The lawns have a clipping before the garden parties with Mathew and his trusty electric Black & Decker and Ian with his petrol powered 1960`s Suffolk Colt.

Finally enjoy the food and drink, see you next time, give us a "Like" subscribe and ask away !!

And while it was cooking he got stuck in repairing the Hotpoint twintub that his Gran had from his childhood. It had a leak on the washtub and needed a new seal on the agitator shaft. The washtub is made of vitreous enamel
and the spin can had been changed to polypropylene from fiberglass resin. Spinning at 3,100 rpm it was the fastest spinning of all twintubs. It also had a linked heater wash timer.

Mike,

Thanks for putting these vids and photos together, amazing stuff.

It’s just a shame we weren’t all able to celebrate it in person.

Cheers,

Jamie

I watched the videos but missed this thread. It looks like you all had a great time. Did enjoy the washing machines ofcourse, but also the baking videos. I haven't done much baking lately, partly due to some diets in the family, which doesn't make it easier. But these videos tickle the baking genes. The Bara Brith looks something I would want to try. So 1 lb is 453 grams? 6 oz 170 grams? And 1/2 pint 236 ml? I will have to divide it by 3 though, 1 loaf would be enough for me.

Good morning Louis, glad you enjoyed the videos, I think the lads all stepped up great on these virtual videos in place of actually meeting. Hopefully it encourages other small groups to do the same .

Or we all do a mini video and pics and load it up in one post each , (so link to video and 10 pics each ) for a continous threads in one post....

The recipe is for 1 x 1lb tealoaf, Mathew x the ingrediants by 3 to make his three loaves.

Yes, the correct weights.

Flour 1 lb = 16oz = 454 grammes
Mixed Fruit 1lb, = 16oz = 454 grammes
Brown Sugar 6oz = 170 grammes
1/2 UK pint of tea = 284 grammes

This cake is often known as a "Cut & Come Again" loaf as would have been a special cake reserved for high tea and guests etc, Now get mixing (vintage style ?) and post the pics !!

Bara Brith

Louis

Just a couple of points. When the Bara Brith is ready to go into the oven it will be very stiff indeed, when I made it I had to go back to the recipe to make sure I had not made a mistake. It will be much better if you leave it in an air tight tin (wrapped in grease proof paper or baking parchment) for a couple of days before slicing

Thank you Mike for clearing that up. Have saved the recipe, but won't be baking soon I suppose. A cooking and baking thread with classic mixers etc. would be great. Unfortunately I got rid of some of the older stuff when I moved here. I have two 1959 one speed Philips mixers, but they are too underpowered to make a good batter. I have a Braun K1000, haven't used that one in ages.
