Purchased this vintage Philco Bendix wringer washer from an antique store 5 minutes away from my house – I drive an SUV so I loaded it into the car on its side, with the wringer toward the top of the roof. It was at a slight angle so the top was higher than the bottom, but oil still leaked – it was leaking from the roller head shaft downwards when it was upright at home, so I'm guessing it leaked from the bottom toward the top. I lifted the roller head shaft out of the unit and it didn’t appear there was any oil that entered. I also took pictures of what the gears look like – does it look like there is an adequate amount of grease? Also, I was told I could place gear oil down the hole where the roller head shaft came out of the neck to replace the oil that was lost from transport – is that correct? It appears if I do add oil in that hole, the oil would reach the transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oil Leak From A Philco WW

Good news is the oil that leaked out looks clean, I would clean up the spilled oil and put the WW to work, the amount of oil that leaked out will never cause a problem, there are at 10 possible issues that you could have with this vintage WW that would be more serious  than this small oil loss.
