With the landscape of today's laundry equipment, I'm beginning to think my pair is truly antique, though they're only 17 years old. In my last post, I mentioned my 2003 Whirlpool set; washer LSR8444LQ0 and dryer LER5620KQ1. As long as I've had them, the only repair was the DD coupling on the washer. Btw, I heard Speed Queen has a 25-year warranty, but are they worth the asking price? Also, do they perform as good as a WP DD? Without further ado...

nice set of durable machines you got there.....will get you through any load you throw at it...the main thing, this most likely does not have dubbed down temps...Regular cycle, Warm wash, Cold rinse>>>for every load...clean and simple, what more do you need?

I had the 2003 set that came with the new house.....I thought it was unique that the timer could be turned backwards....was quick to set as I only ran one cycle, over and over....

a little windex and polish will have them gleaming for years to come....

probably the only thing I would change is the agitator, swapping out for a Dual Action....really helps with rollover and capacity....

with SQ.....I would bet more on the Front Load pair....basic controls and functions, yet can handle just about anything you can throw at it....plus effective and efficient

They may have been built in 2003, but aside from the control panel design and the hole count on the side of the wash basket, it was the same tried-and-true design as what made it's debut in 1981 as "Design 2000". By 1985, the reliability and wash performance of Design 2000 was proven so good, the legendary belt-drive models began to be phased out. Ironically, the top 4 corner rod suspension and neutral drain introduced with the first BD model was reintroduced in 1995 by GE's FF successor. They had a greater capacity and flex-vane agitators, but their reputation for quality didn't compare to their predecessor. My set came from a prestigious Whirlpool design line. If only my Grandpa were still here, he'd tell them not to try fixing what ain't broken. Yet they did, and now they are broken... SHAME! Btw my set shall never see the light of day at any crusher, furnace, or landfill!!
