Machine is approx. five to six yrs old. It's developed the habit of getting clogged. You can hear the motor running and during drain it tries to start but can't pump out the water. Check bottom of machine for any debris but it's clear. Checked drain hose and it seems to be clear.

Any suggestions on what to try next or should I start looking for another DW? LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK AND THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE FOR THE ADVICE

Take care and stay safe

Washdaddy...(Rick)

Rick, if this dishwasher is only 5 or 6 years old, then it has a filter that should be periodically checked and cleaned.  All their portable dishwashers for the last 5-10 years have a filter that needs to be checked.

Thanks for the input Bob.

I'd you are referring to the filters that you can remove from inside the DW we have done that and made sure they were clean. are there any other filters I should be aware of that are under the tub?

Draining Problems With A Newer WP Portable DW

combo52's profile picture

Hi Rick, It would be really helpful if you [ and anyone else ] would post a model # when asking for help with an appliance..

If it is a newer style WP filter wash DW with a separate electric drain pump lay the DW over and remove the drain pump and check for a piece of broken glass, plastic Etc caught in the pump housing, also check for damaged impeller.

Make sure the drain hose is really clear and not kinked anywhere, there is a Check valve on the end of the hose near the pump that can clog, the other common place for is in the uni-cupple that attaches to the faucet [ if it is clogged at the UC when the DW goes to drain you can usually hear a restricted noise at the UC ]

A clogged filter will not affect draining because the water does not drain through the filter screen when draining.

If you can not find any problem replace the drain pump. The DP just twist locks in and out, no tools required.

SUCCESS FOLKS!

Just a note to say that success has been had. With John L.'s suggestion we proceeded to check the pump and hoses for problems.

Bob (partner) disconnected the hoses (intake and drain). Made the unfortunate mistake of putting the DW upright. Of course, WET FLOOR booboo! Well that confirmed the sump area/pump wasn't clogged cause the water poured out of the machine. OH MY!!! That was the good news.

Took the drain hose and attached it to the faucet and flushed out the drain line. All kinds of YUCK came out. Ran DW with cleaner and it drained perfectly.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope and pray it stays in working order.

Again, I truly thank you John for your guidance. This group is amazing as always.

Stay safe everyone and take care

Washdaddy (Rick)
