What a dichotomy.  BOL washer and TOL dryer.

That's like the dryer my neighbor Thelma had, along with the matching washer.

The dryer is from 1973 so it's a fair bet that it's mate was replaced in the 90's when that BOL 'Tag was in the stores. It's more than common for people to replace full-featured machines that fail (even when they've given more than their reasonable life-span) with dead-simple machines--everybody has the same story about the repair technician that tells the bereaved customer that the TOL machines have "more to go wrong". That's what my Mother always did.

Mom and Dad bought this exact model in 1973 and used it for 5 years. I've never used a more perfect dryer--fast, accurate and had a light in the drum and no idiotic foot pedal to open the door. The GE dealer that sold it to them talked them out of the more expensive BIG door/drum model because they had so many customer complaints about how slow it was (of course, I was furious--stupid appliance dealer). The matching washer wasn't bad either but it had a loud SQUAWK during agitation that never went away. When I visted the house 8 years ago, the washer had been replaced but the dryer was still working.
