Has anyone ever had "Macaroni Pudding" it sounds interesting.

I was checking out that Macaroni Pudding as well--especially since I had a wisdom tooth pulled Thursday and am on soft foods for 5-10 days. Having trouble making out the ingredients and directions, though. Will have to pull out my magnifying glass.

Reply #3: Don't recall ever seeing boxes of JelloŽ Chiffon Pie Filling mixes. It appears to have a very cake-like texture.

Reply #7: Haven't had apple dumplings in years! Will have to give this recipe a try--although I'll probably cheat and use Pillsbury Unroll & Bake pastry, lol.

Reply #10: Just read that Dreyers, parent company that makes Eskimo Pies, is rebranding the chocolate-covered ice cream treat, as the word Eskimo is generally considered to be outdated and derogatory.

The apple dumplings look so good - and they are! How do I know? That's the recipe my mom always used. I've not seen the whole ad, as she had only cut out the recipe part with the yellow background. I knew it was from the 40's or early 50's, but it's nice to know it's from '47. I want to make them when I get a fully working kitchen again.

The Chicken of the Sea frozen dinners must not have stayed around long, as I don't remember ever seeing them. It says they are "boil in bag"; I used to get some other frozen foods that came that way, such as Chicken a'la king. Seems like they tasted better than microwave versions.

I've never heard of "Skinner's" macaroni or pasta products, along with dozens of other brands I'm sure. So I looked it up. It's still made by some company and available in a few Southern-area states. It appears that the original factory building in Omaha is now the Skinner Loft Apartments. That chef pictured in the ad looks like he over-applied that "Gay Red" Tangee lipstick.

There are recipes on the Skinner website including a few pudding recipes. I can't read the ingredients in the ad, so not sure if that particular recipe is there.

An obvious twist on

"noodle kugle". Milk, eggs, suagr, cinamon, noodles baked. Some add cottage cheese.

The Gay Nineties Chocolate cake recipe only calls for 4 tbs of butter and 1 egg.  I suppose they think that the 1 3/4 cups of milk will compensate for the stingy amount of fat and eggs, but I think I’ll pass on this one.  As my Grandpa would have said, this cake is liable to be as dry as a “popcorn fart”.

Strange how Royal baking powder calls that a recipe for a chocolate cake when it's obviously a yellow cake with chocolate icing.

I'd forgotten about Uncle Ben's Stuff'n Such. I don't think it was sold for long. Probably too much competition from Stove Top. I remember having it a few times.

Foods Fried in Crisco Seven Days A Week

ea56's profile picture

I lived in an apartment during the late 70’s and every month I went to the managers apt. to pay the rent.  His wife was a seven days a week Crisco fry cook.

There was always a can used Crisco from her fried meals on the kitchen counter.  Between the old Crisco  odor  and used diapers that apartment stunk to high heaven.  It was all I could do to keep from hurling until I could give her the check and beat it out of there.

this southern bear does not know very much about frying foods. Only thing my mom fried was chicken, usually on our birthday if we wanted it because it was so rare and special.

I remember these 5 cent Milky Ways!  And the wrappers were almost exactly like the one in the picture even in the early 50’s.

When I was 5 years old my Mom would give me a quarter in the morning before breakfast and tell me to walk to the Safeway that was about 3 blocks away and with this quarter buy a loaf of Kilpatricks Thin sliced sandwich bread, and with the 10 cents remaining I could buy a candy bar for myself and one for my brother Joe.  I always got a Snickers for me and a Milky Way for Joey.  Such a deal!

You have to be six years older than Christ to have memories of prices like this. LOL

My Mom used to tell us kids that when she was a little girl during the Depression if she was lucky enough to have a nickel she would buy herself a Three Musketeers bar, because she got the most bang for her nickel.

The original Three Musketeer bars actually had THREE small, individual bars, one each of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, hence the name Three Musketeers.

And the thrifty soda pop choice was a Nehi for a nickel with 10 oz. as opposed to 6 oz. for a Coca Cola.
