My grandma had a Whirlpool self clean oven/smooth top range that I think was from 1996 or so. When they moved into their house in 1995, they had a self clean/coil top GE with dial timers, but something went wrong with the oven. So the builder let them get a new one under warranty and my grandmother always wanted a smooth top so she got one instead.

Anyway fast forward to now, the last couple of years the orange oven temp display had gotten dim as well as to a lesser extent, the green clock display. My grandma asked if it was repairable but I guess it needed a new control setup.

So a few weeks ago she went to Lowes and bought a new stove. She had been wanting to replace the vent hood also since it was looking worn, so she decided to have an over the range microwave installed as well. The builders came out and installed the plug and everything for it.

Not sure how I feel about the over the range microwave as far as her trying to move hot bowls and stuff in and out - she is 85, after all. And I know they aren't the best idea, but if she likes it, what harm is it? LOL

The range might have been repairable, but at the price probably wasn't worth it, I'm guessing. She asked her neighbor if he wanted it and he said it was nicer than what he had, so she let him have the old one.

I'm not sure what the quality difference is between a 1996 range and a new one, but hopefully she'll be happy with it. I don't know what brands she got or what kind exactly, but I'm sure it was similar to what she had before.

I didn't buy her a new range, she got it herself. I was planning to visit this summer, but because of the virus, I haven't. So I'll have to ask her what she got.
