Hey everyone got this free for helping neighbor install new one. Can someone tell me the model number? It’s not in front of me and I wanna say KDS-17 but I’ve never seen one with the single button on left side of the handle. Also that button is missing. Does anyone have one? Lol.

The "A" modification is addition of the brown button for no-heat dry.

Some pics of the inside. Looks to be rusted and also some damage on the front panel.

A very popular DW in its day, looks to be in really good shape, the rust around the heater nuts is nothing to worry about, that came from outside humidity from the DW being in a damp environment for prolonged periods of time, it also damaged the control panel trim.

Hook it up and put it to use, you can see they used poor detergent for water conditions, the new premium detergent pacs work best in these vintage DWs, one in the main wash, with a cheaper liquid or power in the pre-wash cups.

Heater Nut Rust

John,
Is there a preventative I can put to get rid of the rust and stop it from rusting. I know you said not to worry about it but I'm 0-3 with rusting KDS models. LOL So Im a little nervous.

You can wire brush it a little and put some paint on, I would not take it apart unless it leaks, and keep your A/C on, the DW should stay at about 50% humidity like every thing else in your house.

I think they had it sitting outside for a while and the cabinet area where the dishwasher was looked like it had a little water damage. It will definitely be indoors with A/C. Do you possibly have the missing button or replacement front panel?

Update

Currently soaking my filter in sink. Did the hot water and dishwasher tab soak overnight. It looks to be hard calcium build up on the fine filter and most of the large plastic grating. I also took pics and also noticed what looks to be some rust inside the machine which I circled in black

Finally got the front off

Got some more pics taken of the KDS-17 last night. Got the front off and just wondering if I have bent the front of the machine or if those bends are supposed to be there. Also does anyone know the inside diameter of the intake fill valve? It came with a copper line and a flare nut which I don't have on my sink so I need to get the proper size to hook up to a braided stainless steel line.

The inlet valve is the standard 3/8" female pipe thread.

You have some cleaning to do., you don't really need to document dirt, LOL

It’s alive!!!

Hooked up the KDS this evening. It turns out the intake valve was blocked with trash from what looks to be a failed hot water heater lining. Took over an hour to break up all the trash and then use a syringe to flush it out. There is no screen inside. But either way got it running.
