Pics

1 = 1960 (earliest photo I have of a pushbutton timer but doesn't mean it was the first)

2 = 1961

3 & 4 = LJA 1962

5 = LKA 1963

6 = LMA 1965

7 = LPA 1966 (last year for WP pushbutton timer)

First two non-pushbutton timer Imperial Mark XII models

8 = LRA 1967

9 = LSA 1968

Doctrine says LLA is 1964 but also that no 1964 models were produced.

Thanks for the great pictures, Glenn.

Friends of ours had your first one but with black buttons. They moved into a lovely new home and relatives in South Georgia had the washer and dryer on the floor of their furniture store and brought it up to them.

What wonderful beautiful Whirlpools!

The 60 Suds Waterfall and the 62 pink, top button model make me sigh. They really did move the buttons around.

Thanks Glenn, I knew you had the knowledge to button this down for us, (smiling). And now the mystery and the query: Did Whirlpool "Push" before 60.

Gonna guess yes because of the 59 rapid-advance Lady K.

Perhaps, the 62 Mark XII may have been the the genesis at Whirlpool for the making of the 65 Lady K.

Ah, to live and dream for washing machines ! Pass the catnip, please.

Oh, always happy to post pics of my 1960 Whirlpool Imperial MARK XII, the washer with my name in it!
Running well, you kinda have to know where the knob needs to stop for buttons 1 and 2 or you'll just keep turning past it, but other than that it's nice. I think the 3 solenoid inlet valve is GREAT, and I like cleaning the dirty filter, it makes me know I really have a vintage machine running. My MOL 1959 WP has the same 3 way valve, they give great variety of temps.

Your 63 looks excellent Sean, congratulations! Tons of help here to keep it in tip-top shape.
Amazing how radically they changed the entire buttons and console year after year.

There is an interesting advert photo of the 1958 Mark XII, in the "Fave washer of all time" Thread #2587, Reply #42.
I tried to drag it here, but failed. You're the resident whiz at photo capture. If you get a chance......

Glitzed up to the max, it is both a push button and a timeline. Be great if we could get a clearer, larger image of this machine's control panel
to read the multiple lines of graphics.

I am not sure if there are any 1958 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII’s that are around anymore since I’ve seen none in the archives. Only 1958 Whirlpool Imperial washer that is around that I know of is a 1958 Whirlpool Imperial timeline owned by a friend of mine in North Carolina. My ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII is pretty rare as well since I’ve seen no others in the archives here on AW.

Howdy, MD.  Hope all is well up your way.  :-)

The 1958 Imperial Mark XII is not a pushbutton timer.  It has a fabric guide that details the selections to be set by color coding on the various switches (agitation speed, rinse temp, wash temp -- spin speed apparently is in the timer/cycle) and the appropriate cycle and wash time.

It's featured in the Jam Handy Organization's promotional documentary The Wonderful World of Wash 'n' Wear.

Notice the dryer has only Heat and Air temp choices so maybe the fabric guide on it does set the drying temperature ... or it's an all-fabric, soft-heat type of design.

Our neighbors had the 1960 push button on their back patio. It must have not worked any longer. Rain water would get into it and we would plug it in and watch it agitate. Fun times. This must have been about 1971.

Here’s something else I have wondered about for awhile. I wonder what options the 1958 Whirlpool Imperial timeline dryers had compared to the TOL Mark XII dryers in 1958 or did they just have Mark XII dryers paired up with the Imperial washers in 1958? Reason why I say that is my 1963 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer is paired up with a Imperial dryer and not a Imperial Mark XII dryer. Some Mark XII washers were probably paired up with Imperial dryers since the Imperial dryers were a little cheaper than the TOL Mark XII

Wished for only a pic and you deliver an entire video of a long, slow, pan shot of the control panel and then, almost unbelievably, footage of the Whirlpool in slo mo washing, spinning, and spray rinsing in SEE-THRU tubs. GOOD LORD! This is the quintessential "Forbidden Cycle!" moment. Who knew there was washer porn during the Eisenhower Era, LOL. What an amazing find. Don't know how you do it! Thank You.

Doing fine here, Glenn; hope you're good, too.

There are good photos of Gansky's '61 in the thread I linked to below. There's also a photo of a '66 panel.

Put a little fabric softener in the bleach dispenser and when it dispenses the fabric softener a few minutes before it would drain it will knock down the suds :)
