Has anyone ever seen a Caloric washer? I will admit that there was not much to see, although it vaguely resembles a bol Philco, another Beam machine, that has made appearances here over the years. From the Tide text selling against low sudsing detergents, I would guess that this is from the early mid 50s, 1953 or so until the end. I remember the blue and yellow ALL metal pail near our Kenmore washer in the basement of our house in Illinois and we were there between 1952 and early 1955.  I wonder if the "GYRO BALANCE SPIN" was another name for Philco's "BALL POINT BALANCE" feature.

The question I have is if Caloric sold the washer with their weird dryer that I only saw for sale at the Atlanta Gas Light Company or if they were marketed at different times.  The only dryer I saw installed was in the house of a customer on my paper route. Compared to the Hamilton and WP dryers on the showroom floor in the Gas Co. showroom, it looked like a real outcast, like something put together with parts found in an abandoned factory. I am guessing that maybe Caloric had accounts that sold their ranges in hardware and furniture stores and maybe LP gas stores in small towns and when automatic washers were really taking off, having this machine would enable these small accounts to be able to offer an automatic washer  to their customers at a time when automatic washers would maybe only be offered to stores that sold the full line of a manufacturer's appliances.

Yeah, the industrial design of the "off brand" appliances wasn't always the best...Thermador, Monarch, Caloric and Modern Maid were pretty well designed for their primary lines but fell down on the ancillary stuff (like Caloric laundry) which wasn't their core business...or they were hamstrung by, for instance, D&M for dishwashers.
