I purchased this maytag wringer washer, E2L, serial: 31291 XC, over the weekend for $80. I plugged it in and the washer worked, however, the wringer didn't. Also, its leaking oil at down one of the legs on the back left side, where the cord is hanging.
I saw a vid recommending changing the water seal as it may go bad and ruin the gearbox over time, from this vid:
As wanting a 2nd opinion, would you folks also recommend changing out the water seal? i've already located the 4 parts from: www.cottagecraftworks.com... 1. Part name / #: washer water seal A4298
2. Part name / #: Washer 15666
3. Part name / #: spring clip 15667
4. Part name / #: washer agitator stop ring 15494
I was looking to work on the water seal first before seeing if i can fix the wringer portion.
My folks are also worried about health concerns washing cloths in it, saying possible rust or metal getting onto the clothes. Are their concerns valid (I dont think so but I wanted to double check)? Thanks
You can't add oil in that hole. You have to remove the tub and access the power unit.
I would recommend putting a seal in it as that is where the water would get into the PU.
Also, Larry has a thread where he totally dissembled his Maytag E2L and ran into also had different issues and resolved them. He also included pictures.
