Hi all
This website is fascinating!!

I'm wondering though if someone in Australia (Melbourne preferably!) can help...

I am seeking a faily old school Hoover Washing Maching and a matching Dryer - basically I have had about three washing machines in 10 years as the new ones are rubbish (I've had a Whirlpool Front Loader, a F&P Top Loader and a F&P Front Loader which I currently have now as I wasnt satisfied with the F&P top loader)

My mum has had Hoover washing machines like, forever - they are quick and just seem to go and go and go. I guess I am looking for anything from the mid-80's onwards, up until Hoover stopped making them in Australia.

Ideally looking for something that is in great condition or even better, restored by one of the enthusiasts on here! as I want to use it day to day and also have it repaired if ever necessary. I'm happy to do a cosmetic cleanup on it but dont have the nouse for any mechanical repairs.

Aside from the speed, performance and reliability of these machines, I guess I am also attracted to the nostalgia of it and the clunk-clunk of a mechanical timer that you just cannot get anymore.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hi there Simon,

Welcome to the club!

Have you considered setting up alerts on Gumtree and maybe even Facebook Marketplace?

Older Hoover top loaders do pop up from time to time on both of those sites.

If you're prepared to ship machines from interstate, I'm sure you'll come across a machine you're looking for.

Cheers
Leon

Hi!

Hey Leon!

Wow - you're like a CELEBRITY! thanks for replying to my post!!!

Yeah I think thats pretty much the only way to go - Facebook Markerplace, ebay, gumtree etc - the usual suspects. I just thought i'd put it out there to see if there are any other avenues I hadn't explored yet.

its a pretty unusual request but this I thought would be the best forum in which to find some likeminded people which would truly understand the desire for such a machine - perhaps also a community of people that can help me keep it going for many years more.

Again, just so thankful for your reply - i've seen your website, youtube etc and yeah, in amazement at the collection you have curated!

Kind regards

Simon

Blackstone-Based Design?

Are you looking for a Hoover that is based on the Blackstone design? I would be interested to hear if you acquire one, since our family business was a Blackstone dealer here in the U.S.

This picture is of a Hoover, showing a different pump than what was used here in U.S., but the cabinet & transmission are similar.

Hey Fred!

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not too familiar under the hood of these machines, but yes, I think I am looking for one of those style machines....

Basically, if it agitates like this -

- then yes, i am after it!

These are two that I am looking at...

(will add in two separate posts...)

Simon,

I'm not the expert on the cabinet design and model numbers that are used in Australia; I need to see the insides! Other members can help you in that regard.

My father sold Blackstones since the 1950s, up until the company went out of the appliance business in the mid-1970s. The models you are looking for would be from the 1970s-era Blackstones. I seriously doubt you will ever find a Blackstone 250 or 350 in Australia; shipping one from the U.S. would be astronomical.

Advertising folder for the last Blackstone models, available in white, harvest gold, or avocado.

My Laundry HIstory

In fact if you are interested this is the history of machgines I have owned since living in this house. In case the photos don't upload in the proper order, I have owned

a Whirpool Front Load washer and dryer - replaced this machine in 2012 asd it used to take about 5hrs to complete a cotton cycle

a F&P WashSmart 8kg Top Loader and Aerosense Dryer - good machines, replaced these with the new WashSmart Front Loader when it came out. 8kg was a bit too big

a F&P WashSmart 7.5kg Front Loader and Condenser Dryer - still my fav front loader. Very Sad that the dryers were not made well, dryer only lasted three years. a Power surge in our house has also seen the washer start playing up.

An Electrolux Condenser dryer - these are not very good (replaced the F&P condenser)

and then I took a stab at a 2nd Hand Hoover washer and dryer - these lasted a day or two and then got sent back - poor condition for the $800 i paid for the set

And finally, the new QuickSmart Top Load, which i really am liking

Stay tuned, the new dryer will get hung on the wall on thursday!
