but here is my problem

the washer leaks some kind of greasy gunk that stains and stiks
Is this transmission fluid?
Is she doomed?
Please look at the pictures and tell me what you think

Thank you again

and here's one last pic of the inside
Am I just looking at rust or is there something else?
I guess I should add that I am using the washer on a regular basis for the usual 4 to 6 loads a week my familiy requires. Is she getting to old for this?

Thanks for your help again

Transmission Rebuild. There is an o-ring at the bottom of the inside of the transmission shaft that has probably worn out. When it no longer provides a good seal it allows oil to leak past and when your machine spins it flings it around under the bottom of the cabinet. Very normal for the age of your machine. I bet if you tip your machine up and look at the bottom there will be an oil coating underneath. It's not an easy repair for the novice but can be done and the parts are still available. Christfr in St. Louis just rebuilt his, but then again he is the macho ambitious type! I would recommend spending the money and the machine will probably last another 20-25 years. Good Luck.

I guess my wife was right....

She's been telling me this for the past 6 months but I wouldn't believe her....
So it needs a transmission rebuild?
Were could I get the instructions?
Or actually how much should it cost to do ?

Thanks again

hey there its really not a hard job just takes time. i was lucky i had someone help me through the repair and i did just fine..first find a repair master book and read through it.. then i got the parts i needed at repair clinic . com.. youll need one bott of trans oil one trans gasket and one o ring seal and a set of belts.. thats usually it.. the oil is leaking from an o ring seal in the trans its about the size of a dime and the oil is going down the agi shaft and when the machine spins it slings the oil out onto the floor.. the underside of the machine where the belts are is prob coated with oil.. its a messy job but not to hard.. the whole machine has to come apart and the trans has to be cracked in half to do this job..but once the job is done and you replace the belts and clean the underside that machine should run another 40 years..
