located in Wisconsin. A bit expensive for its age but looks very well cared for. I bought this same model new in 1985. It is the first generation of Kenmore direct drive washers as it has the clothes guard with a spin drain. Mine did not come with the fabric softener dispenser attachment, they must have added that themselves. A good machine with average capacity.

There is NO such thing as A shreadmore If one is stupid enough to wash a load of delicate clothing at hi speed for 14 minutes you might experience extra fabric wear, ANY agitator washer can cause extra wear if used without common sense.
WP suggested when these washers first came out that it was unnecessary to wash lightly soiled clothing more than 6-8 minutes.

That's true of course. Most loads don't need 14 mins of high agitation, although the suggested wash times on lid instructions was typically 10 to 14 mins for white/colorfast cottons and pushbutton/locking timers had the "A" cycle starting at the maximum 14 mins. The typical consumer is hard-wired to established habits. Am I recalling correctly that Jon Charles reported some years ago starting a load of jeans in a 1-18 and coming back the next day to find it was still agitating and the load had disintegrated into a soupy mess? | ||
