Found this randomly on the web, I don't know if anybody has seen it, but by the looks of the tub ring and clothes guard ring, this looks like a direct drive with perhaps a BELT drive agitator??? Like a roto swirl? Anybody?

Here's a link to the page it's on, if anybody feels like getting full access to that page and perhaps finding out more about it, feel free.

More than likely is a direct drive washer. Looks like a belt drive agitator but there were a couple of interesting agitators Whirlpool and Kenmore were experimenting with in 1981 and 1982.

The picture is a DD washer, The agitator cap picture is wrong, someone photo-shopped it in maybe at the ad agency, they never built such an agitator-cap in a DD washer.

Thanks John. Would've been cool to see something like that though!

I believe there was a 24” belt drive washer Kenmore did make in the late 70’s and early 80’s with the same control panel.

It would have a different, D-shaped tub cover and no clothes-guard ring.

I’m going to say it’s an early Direct-Drive 1983 or 1984.

The Clothes Guard within the D Shaped Opening gives it away. But I thought that Direct-Drives used either a Straight-Vane Agitator or a Dual-Action Agitator. The agitator in the picture doesn’t look like neither one.
