Is LG the only mfr. of a W/D all in one unit ? and I am pretty sure its a 120v too. This doesn't seem or hasn't really "taken off" so to speak. Maybe that is why no one else is making them ? or how about a 220v version ?

...I think...

I honestly remeber that the LG combo is available with 220V version either.

Of course is not the only one that makes combo, (I like to call them in italian "lavasciuga"), I think it's the best on the market...but better who has got one can say if it's a good or a bad machine.

Generally, here combo are not so high rated, people especially if they've got place enough prefer to have washer and dryer set, ONLY if you don't have to manage very large load and if you haven't got (or don't want to busy) all that place, you go for a combo unit.

Combo washer/dryer, I heard here take loger than a washer in wash cycle and much loger than a dryer in the drying cycle.

LG I think is the best as I saw is quite diffuse, but try also these

If you mean NEW... well I have to admit that the most availabel WD combo in US is from LG.

In UK I think Hopoint offers also WD combo, while here in Italy each brand has got a combo unit, from Whirlpool to Rex, From Indesit to Bosch...

Greg:

agreed, it is the only 110v version of a water-cooled condenser W/D that I have found. Can't seem to find a 220v version.

I will be needing one of these in the near future. Can't say LG thrills me based on service complaints, although I like the machine and its engineering and presentation well enough.

As a collectors oddity, it appeals to me. As a practical daily-driver, I'm concerned about what to so should it break down!

I am reluctant to go with a Euro-tyle condenser dryer. (Read: tiny, slow, expensive to buy and air-cooled; it will heat-up the room).

uk wdryers

we have several washer dryers in the uk and they are not bad depending which model you buy. Hoptpoint, indesit, siemens, bosch and Zanussi all make combos as well as hoover/ candy. Only problem is creasing during the drying cycle

I don`t know anything about the Voltage and drying times of US LG combos, but gernerally spoken there is another important drawback of water condensed combos apart from creasing.
The water condensed duct walls have a strong tendency to clog up with lint. Hard water seems to accelerate this problem and drying times become longer and longer. So if you don`t linedry most of your laundry anyway and don`t want to spend some Sunday afternoons with fixing your dryer unit, stay away.
For just drying a small load every now and then a combo is fine, of course.
According to our consumer magazine some LG washers seem to be quite reliable but only average performers. Rinsing on cottons for example has a bad rating and if you don`t want to float your place you`d better buy another machine. But those water safety precuations are not comparable with the US market anyway. And they seem to have only one tumbling speed for washing and rinsing. One might expect a bit more with all those tempting knobs and lights ;-)
Hope this helps.

Asko?Eurotech,Malber, LG, Summit, Supra (sp), and others all sell combo units on the United States market. LG is Korean, while most all the others are either rebadged European or IIRC Asian models.

Summit or Supra IIRC offers a 220v combo washer/dryer, all the rest are 120v. Malber offers a 220v dryer, but their combo unit is 120v. My guess is the market for such units is small to begin with, and requiring 220v power would limit the market more. Most people looking at such units are in apartments, and may not be able, for various reasons to install 220v power. Miele,Bosch, AEG, and others make 220v combo units, but doesn't even bother selling them in the US.

Nearly all reviews on both sides of the pond on combo units say the same thing; even the best of them have draw backs, and if one can possibly swing it, install separate washer/dryer units.

For the American market, with it's large homes/loads of laundry, the best design would probably be a full sized unit running on 220v/30amp power that was vented. Even then such unit would require regular upkeep to run properly. Just the thought of all that lint and detergent residue seems like a fire waiting to happen under the right conditions.

Greg, is the version you're speaking of the machine that resembles an LG washer with the rear controls? It is either the only combo or one of the few combos that is equivalent in size/capacity to the vintage machines. However, it is only 115 volts like the others, and while it has a 3.72 cubic-foot drum and a claimed wash capacity of 22 pounds (this information was on the site, but isn't anymore, just the volume of the drum), the wash/dry capacity, like its vintage counterparts, is only 11 pounds.

I've seen the Supra machine before as well...and for a 220V machine it's still rather small. I'd really like to see a modern full-sized 220V combination introduced as well.

I have sold over 20 of the full size(3.7 cu ft.)models of the LGs and have received nothing but positive feedback! In fact just earlier today,a custmer called me to tell me about their experience and positive results. They are going to move their's from the current location in the mud room to the kitchen where they can build it in undercounter.Their average cycle took 2 hours from wash to dry and they said the clothes were wrinkle free and smelled like they were hung outdoors. The clothes they didn't dry in the machine were dried outside in less than an hour. The high speed 1200 rpm spin was probably the cause of that.

LG Washer Dryer combo!

I have a LG combo 3677 combo for over 2 years like the machine when it works. I am in the process of trying to get it repaired. Problem water leaks from door. It has already been fixed twice before. This time I am without the machine for almost 3 weeks now. Believe me the service is a nightmare. I am awaiting for parts to come in that were ordered over a week ago and still hasent arrived. It also has been so much of hassel coordinating service between the GE extended contract, the purchase store, LG and service store that was almost impossible to find. Also they do not let servicers stock any parts and if that is the case they should overnight parts but they dont. Most service people dont have experience with them. Stay away even though its a well built product its not worth the hassels. And for myself it is by far not over.

I will not buy anything with the LG name on it.

Good Luck and I am sure that you will stand firm.
