David, I was thinking of that too. It would be a bear to repair and if it can't be repaired then you need both washer and dryer. I have a stacked unit now. That is a bear to repair too. I'm guessing when a repair person comes that person will just say replace the units. :-)

I like the new user interface. (Maybe this will become the default design for future front load products). HOWEVER, for this model they eliminated numerous cycles that are still standard on other machines. They have been relegated to the download/cloud function. These include Whites, Allergen, Perm Press, and Towels. I seriously doubt the average user is going to go to the trouble of trying to set up their unit to work with wi-fi and download cycles. From what I gather it can be a frustrating experience. And the AI DD technology is only utilized for the Normal Cycle as long as you go with the default of warm water and probably normal soil. The LQ ThinQ app allows access to downloaded and cloud cycles. I've only seen what some of these downloaded cycles settings were from an older Kenmore Elite's manual was specific extra cycles and none had what I was hoping those extra cycles would offer. However some of the Cloud cycles for this model have the potential to offer the added flexibility I'm seeking LG would provide for various fabrics. And those cycles wouldn't be used for what the label says, but for what I want the machine to do that LG's current front load products do not offer.

Well, it's real pretty-- Per the installation manual (link:PDF) the unit does come apart for moving, etc. Long term support/replacement, who knows? Sleek, clean styling, and at 74 3/8" its a little more than three inches shorter than a standard LG set stacked. Unitized machines have been popular since the 70's, so I'm curious if they won't sell pretty well. The price point is higher, but I continue to be astounded at the prices of even mid-line laundry equipment now. CLICK HERE TO GO TO gansky1's LINK

Integrated Stack W&Ds Are usually the way to go if you need the space, As Greg mentioned they have been popular since the FD SM came out around 1969.
Generally having them built into one unit makes service SO MUCH easier because well designed stacks are almost entirely front serviceable without removing the dryer from the washer or moving the entire thing out of the closet.
Popular and fairly easy to service and install stackables include,
Full size WCI, Now FD 27" TL stacks, 1988-now
WP 24" Thin-Twin TL stack 1985-now
WP 27" full size TL Super TT 1988-now.
MT 27" TL stack 1985-2006
Speed Queen 27" TL stack Ultra-Mate apron 1985-89
MT 27" FL Neptune stack 1999-2006
Speed Queen 27" FL stack 2000-now
GE 24" and 27" TL stacks 2005-now
Here is a picture of a 10 YO Frigidaire Affinity washer I serviced last week that just had a simple clogged drain trap that was in a closet in a pan with a gas dryer stacked on top. It would have added nearly $200 to the repair tab and delayed service so it could rescheduled for two men.
I got out the tin snips and fixed it, but this is not how we like to do things and probably not the way you want your machine serviced.
