A friend of mine got a front control Ascenta. The heavy cycle with sanitize option is about 2.5 hours which is very quick. I think normal cycle is around 1.5 hours. She likes it but the racks took some getting used too. Just a heads up, she had to wait about 6 weeks to get hers because of the pandemic. Hopefully yours won't take that long.

Very good choice Pierre. A better choice than the Ascenta model.

Good choice

That's a nice looking machine.  We have a BOSCH with the controls on the top and I wish we would have bought one with the controls in the front so we could monitor what's going on inside.  Good luck with your new machine.  We're happy with ours.

We bought a Bosch 300, model #SHEM63W55N in 2018 and we've been very happy with it...but it took some adaptation on our part. It does not have a heating element in the base like our previous Whirlpool, so it simply can not dry as thoroughly.

Plastic storage containers last much, much longer this way as they don't get melted, but they need extra drying time either with the door partially open or placing them on a dish towel. If we used a rinse additive, this might be alleviated.

I read the owner's manual thoroughly and adjusted the configuration to eliminate the rinse aid light, turn on "intensive drying", etc. We use the Sanitize option every load. A few months ago I began adding a teaspoon of sodium tripolyphosphate powder to the detergent (liquid Cascade) which yields a marked improvement in dish (and dishwasher interior) cleanliness with our municipal water.

So it's a terrific dishwasher and we'd pick the same one again, but if you're used to one with a big heating element it will take some tuning and adaptation. The only issue we've had was a whooshing/gurgling noise which was caused by a large piece of broken glass in the filter basket obstructing water flow.

Rinse Aid

chachp's profile picture

We use Rinse Aid in our Bosch and don't have an issue with the dishes drying.  We will still have water pooled in areas where it couldn't drain obviously but other than that ours are pretty drying even the plastic.  We also use the Sanitary option every load.

New DW

combo52's profile picture

The Bosch should work well, I would lean toward the least expensive models unless money is no object to you as many DWs today only last 3-10 years and the Ascenta models will last just as long as the $1000 models and you won't feel so bad replacing it .

My only big grip with Bosch is they are quite a bit smaller inside and about 1/2" narrower overall so depending how much space your kitchen builder left for the DW you might have a bigger gap on the sides.

I am replacing a Bosch DW for one of our customers where we can only install a Bosch [ or other European  DW ] because the kitchen was built around the Bosch and a Maytag or other American DW will not fit between the cabinets. Unfortunately there is about a 2 month wait fo a Bosch DW now.

I bought the Ascenta model back in 2018 and have had no problems with it and it dries plastic quite well. Why would you not use Rinse Aid. And for less than $500 Canadian with rebate it was a steal. It cleans just as well as the pricey Miele we had and it cleans a helluva lot better than the last two Kitchenaids.

I can’t seem to say enough (or brag enough) about my Samsung that last month I bought:

The capacity although the loading is a bit fussy at times is top notch and it has a third rack for real small stuff that I will never again wash by hand and as for cleaning power I so far never ever had to do anything over!

The third rack is also easy to remove in case I need more room in the middle rack and don’t have anything small to wash that would get lost and I’m willing to wait for next load to do...

So without any reservation a Samsung like that I recommend...

Bosch DW

Glad you found a machine you like. I highly suggest running the Auto cycle. It forces a prewash and will use purges if it needs to. Plus the higher wash and rinse temperatures are good too. I find it cleans just as well as the Heavy cycle, but does actually take longer. Just be sure to clean the filter on occasion.

Bosch Ascenta

Today the top wash arm in my GE fell off so time to replace it. It's just over six years old but it's just as well. This model isn't stainless steel inside, and the Bosch Ascenta models look very good to me, especially if they don't have a heating element at the bottom of the tub.
